Its the car more girls should buy instead of disgusting fucking SUVs they can't even navigate with.

I'd rather a Dacia Hipster.

This. Reminds me that there is this cute girl who lives a few houses down from me who has a car just like in OP's pic, maybe if I catch her I will try to talk to her.

I used to park my r53 and r56 like this.

No.
I rented one when my car was due for maintenance and they're shit.

Okay, it was the cheapest model, but :
- laggy and slow gearbox
- slow af
- bumpy ride
- I'm 6.1 and was super cramped; I actually had to lower my head to be able to see the road.

Not nearly as bad to own as people claim around here
>drives like no other hatch out there, great seating position and controls, perfect steering setup
>some quirks [bad] which can make service and minor fixes more annoying than necessary, but there's a lot of knowledge online
>lots of aftermarket stuff around, but I recommend looking for parts from JCW or GP models first if you want to upgrade something
>Avoid pre-facelift R50s because that transmission is just shit
>no rust issues except for the hatch and taillight housings
>glass roof isn't that great imho, popular option unfortunately
Worth looking into if you're not allergic to wrenching imho, don't buy the cheapest car out there
t. drove a cheap R53 for a few years, great fun and only had a few minor things to fix here and there
Few weeks ago somebody nearby sold a pair of JCW recaro bucket seats. They were so cheap I seriously considered just grabbing the seats and then buy another R50 or R53 for them kek

I had a 2009 R56 that spent almost as much time in the shop as it did on the road. Fun car but holy shit it was unreliable as fuck. The newer ones use the B48 so I'd say they're pretty reliable. They're getting kinda fat for being a MINI these days but they're still fun to toss around.

I wanna have an R53 JCW one day.

Don’t like brand the new ones too much, but I think R50 and R53 are totally worthwhile. Really unique driving experience and you wouldn’t expect it but the upright windshield really does wonders. Classic Minis are neat but I know very well they have their limitations

Appreciating the replies. My wife is learning how to drive and I'm really digging the form factor of these things for a beginner. I guess the major caveat would be reliability since I'm admittedly not mechanically inclined. Perhaps a newer offering will do.

I like them but you are paying extra for a name and I cant stand the interior. The later models are good cars though only the first versions were terribad.

if bmw made a cheap fwd hatchback, everyone would laugh at it
but necromancing an old british marque into a lifestyle brand, that's a billion dollar idea

The only Mini I would by would be a mid-70s Austin Mini with an 850cc engine and a four speed gearbox. Ideally in 70s brown.

What do you not like about it? I think it's better than the samey interiors most other automakers shit out these days.

I enjoyed mine while I had it. Didn't really give me any problems, and I liked the way it shifted. It was JCW version though

How are they going to drop their kids and all their sports equipment off to school/practice with just a Mini Cooper?

One in the front, two in the back. How come past generations managed to raise entire families without a single SUV but now that we're at record low births everyone acts like they NEED an SUV because any less space is literally unusable?

Unreliable?
Or just owned by customers who don't take care of their things (i.e. women)?

I only know one family with 3 or more kids that drives a full size suv. they make bi-weekly trips several hours away to visit family, there's six of them going, and I suspect comfort is paramount, so it makes sense to me. every other family of 3+ has a minivan or cuv/wagon/full size sedan, but a bunch who just had a second kid immediately upgraded like they'll never fit shit in their CRV again lol

The r53s are one of the GOATs as far as smiles per miles go.
Just make sure you get a manual and service the supercharger.
