I don't use the recommended oil
They say use 0w20 but I use 5w30 because I know better. It's not in the manufacturers best interest for me to keep my car on the road forever, they'd rather I buy a new car every 10 years

I put 87 octane gas in my car despite the manual recommending 91 octane

I’m not autistic enough to know about oil so I use what the book says

I do the same because my car has bolt ons + a tune and my tuner recommended a specific higher weight oil based on their track + street experience post modifications

Why not 5w20?

Because 20 is less thinner than 30 at a higher temps, I don't care about fuel efficiency, I just want max protection and thus oil that doesn't thin out as much

I am thinking the same thing it wants me to use 5w20 in australia wtf why such thin oil

Yup it's all emissions based, that's a heavy enough oil to get you out of the warranty period, and thin enough to get the manufacturer some good boy points for reducing mpg by .5. You should probably be using something like 10w40 desu

10w30 at least I'm not using such thin oil maybe if I lived in some below 0 frozen hell-hole.

What's extra ridiculous is when they recommend 0w20 in the US to game the EPA and then 5w30 in the rest of the world because that's what the engine is actually designed for.

>5w30
10w-30 should be required in modern cars. All the engine temps now are about 200°F or 100°C or 3/4ths the temperature gauge if it's unnumbered. 5w-30 is perfect for under 180°F or 80°C

I'm in a frozen hellscape so I'm thinking of swapping to 0w40
