Park in a lot off the street/highway, if possible.
Say as little as possible.
When they ask if you know why you were pulled over, say something like "no I'm not sure".
When they tell you why, feel free to explain.
>your insurance is out
>"i just started a job and im going to the bank right now to deposit money so i can pay my insurance"
>your inspection is out
>"im taking my car to my mechanic right now"
etc etc
If it's something minor like a light being out, you have better odds of getting off with a warning.
If you were going 30 over the speed limit, there's not a lot you can say.
The cop will take 30 years to print your traffic citation, then come back.
In my state, it's a custom to plead "not guilty", then show up in court and talk to a local judge. There's several advantages
>you get to waste the time of the cop that wasted your time with a traffic stop
>if he doesn't show up, you win automatically
>if he does show up, he's often ready to negotiate and drop or alter the charge (half the points, half the fine, etc)
The local judge deals with the trashy half of society all day. Dress nice and be respectful and there's a chance the judge will drop everything.
Some people have better connections, loved ones or friends on the force, etc and they can get away with a lot more. Shitty but that's the way it is. Just do the best you can from your position. YMMV
