In my opinion and experience, 90% of straight piped cars sound like shit. Yes they’re loud, obnoxiously so, but it’s just noise. You usually get loads of unpleasant drone and rasp because there is essentially no system. You’re also leaving performance on the table by fucking with the systems resonance and pulse timing. A properly engineered aftermarket exhaust system will always beat taking the easy and cheap way out by having the muffler shop go to town with a sawzall and exhaust clamps.

Wrong term, you don't want any back pressure. The term you're looking for is exhaust velocity. What you don't want is an exhaust that is too big as it will slow down the exhaust pulses. But that won't happen just straight piping your car with factory diameter piping.

A good sounding engine/exhaust is not necessarily a loud one
a V8 or I6 sound amazing due to the the timbre, not the decibel level.
taking a faggot 4 cyl , ripping out all the exhaust and cats makes it louder, but it will NEVER SOUND GOOD.

On a v8 they sound nice. Anything else sounds like retarded dog shit, but most of those configurations sound like shit no matter what you do to them.

Each one got a resonator.
That gets rid of a bunch of nasty frequencies you don't want to hear.

They literally never sound good on NA cars. But it's essential for turbo cars. The turbo is a giant muffler anyway and a res/muffler delete at minimum lets all those sweet turbo noises come through

I had a rustbelt car's exhaust fail at the resonator flange and it was so fucking loud in the cabin earpro didnt help. It was rattling my chest.
