Trans-Am was cooler.
Both need an engine swap to be a worthwhile driver today.

At this point, any rust free version would be acceptable.

Ls swap and good suspension would be a fun car.

How did America manage to make a V8 engine that big and that gutless?! Has it always been slow as hell or does it just seem that way since cars are a lot quicker these days?

Mostly overhead cam vs pushrod.
Add to that direct injection with variable valve timing controlled precisely by a computer compared to a naturally aspirated carburettor.
Then on top of that modern car parts are made in CAD and machined with tighter tolerances with the cars themselves being optimised into aerodynamic soapboxes using a bunch of software and testing.
What you end up with is the compounding of one or two significant innovations with a lot of tiny optimisations into the slow but unyielding effacement of any semblance of a soul the car could have had, all so that Karen can get pulled over going 60 in a 35.

I'm debating getting a manual from Hawk's and just swapping it in since my autotragic is dying anyway. It'll be fuck off expensive to get those parts to yurop but I won't find all the parts in one place here.

230-250hp that later tpi camaros had is absolutely enough to have fun even today, especially considering the torque you instantly get from that v8. youll still leave behind miatas, toyobarus, base model bmws and the like and youll still have plenty of power to be faster than 95 percent of traffic, even on highway. quit pretending every car needs to be a 1000hp rocketship to be cool

Tiny camshaft with low duration and lift.
Low compression. Shit timing curve. Shit fuel delivery. Shit cylinder heads. Shit catalytic converters, restrictive exhaust manifolds.
Change all this out and you can make a 305 'fun'.

>>28695124
I have a 5 speed 305 tpi 230 horse. It's still a fun car. Slow compared to modern cars obviously, but who cares. V8 go brr. I also have a 350 TPI car as well.
The TPI system is extremely outdated for sure. It's almost a 40 year old system. Both of my TPI cars have had computer issues. I can't see many stock TPI systems surving into the far future. I will be going aftermarket eventually. Maybe even LS swap. The off idle torque with the stock cam is hilarious though. Gobs of torque from 1500 to 3k. There's no point in revving a stock TPI car over 4500 - 5000, they just make more noise and don't actually go anywhere. Thanks long intake runners! You can put along out accelerating normie traffic at 2000 - 2500 all day.

I think the best look would be:
1982~ trans am front bumper
1984 trans am side ground effects
Either a Camaro duck bill spoiler or a trans am aero spoiler
Trans am hood
sleepy eye headlights mod
Digital dash
Blue body, with purple or black accents
>>28690061
Some company came up with a complete suspension overhaul/swap, but it's like 19000.
I wish Chevy would make a car with the third gen look based on the alpha platform, or at least in the future that advances with metal 3d printing allows us to make cars with the same exterior dimensions and looks, but modern materials and unibody

Yeah, it's a 1988 Formula, pic rel >>28690505
I already have 1982-84 front and rear bumper covers to transplant onto the car because the Formula covers with those black plastic bumperettes are a tragedy. Problem is, and I found out the hard way, the shock absorbers are different between the 82-84, 85-90 and 91-92 models so the covers don't fit. I'll probably just hacksaw some of the rubber away because I'm not going to pay $50 plus $100 shipping for a piece of rubber I'm not sure even came off the first two model years of the car.
