American Cars
What is the general consensus on American cars ?

The price advantage they have over their Euro/Jap competition is nonexistent outside of North America. Without it, meh.
Anonymous No.28692274 [Report] >>28692318
>>28692264
The only cars that even have a price advantage are the sports cars and it’s entirely due to non American brands simply choosing to charge more. Otherwise, other countries’ cars are cheaper in America, especially Europe where you can get bmws and Porsches for cheaper than in their home country despite being imports.

America is just the freest auto market.

A base Carrera is (in USD) 172K here, compared to 130k in the US. A GT3 is 250k here, compared to 230k there.
An M2 is 87k here, compared to 67k there. Admittedly, we have a higher base trim, but it's mostly just feature bloat. An M4 is 115k here, compared to 90k there. Largely the same spec.
Meanwhile, a Mustang GT is 60k here, compared to 47k there. Criminally, it's auto-only now with the S650.
A C8 3LT starts at 125k here, compared to 84k there. A Z06, if you can manage to get one, is 210k, compared to 120k there.

We do not have displacement or co2 taxes here.

As with everything, "new bad, old good," but only more extreme. An american car from the mid 60's is a perfectly reasonable, albeit unusual, daily driver, at least for the enthusiast, while euro cars from before the mid 80's with acceptable features like power brakes and AC are either exceedingly rare or expensive

This, American interiors are the best.

>>28692221 (OP)
Americans are the only ones who understand what it takes to build a perfectly comfortable car interior. My Japanese and German cars usually have tiny cupholders unfit to hold a large soda/coffee, for instance. I was just reflecting upon this when driving my new 99 VW Passat. Americans don't overengineer stuff like the Germans to be overcomplicated. For example, my Passat doesn't have a trunk release button, The seat spine is controlled by a knob, so it takes an ungodly amount of time to raise or lower the seat to/from a sleeping recliner position. The tachometer numbering is really weird (RPMx100 for some reason), the fuel gauge labelling is also retarded, with 1/1 instead of F and 1/2 specified like I couldn't tell already. It beeps at you obnoxiously when you're low on gas. The door lock doesn't engage manually, so you always need to use your key to lock it whenever you get out of the vehicle if your key FOB is dead. The armrest storage is designed in a really dumb way. So is the front console storage area. Also, you can't get anything you drop under the seat out, unlike my old 99 Corolla which has none of the problems listed above. Meanwhile, American vehicles have spacious, comfortable, functional interiors designed with the driver in mind. End of rant.

This isn't true. Germans invented planned obsolescence, and pretty much everyone practices it now. I would argue that American cars are pretty easy to work on, if you can forgive the fact that they're not metric.

They're kind of alright if you don't mind the shitty fuel economy, trash interiors and having no spares on this continent.
There's one Dodge Magum SRT-8 (one US car i might consider) for sale in my cunt and they want a ridiculous price for an 18 year old 70k mile family wagon. Basically, you have to really be an enthusiast/ Ameriboo if you want to buy into and live with US cars here.

i absolutely love some of them due to their sovl and v8 but they are actually all trash and buttold tech mass produced to chinese levels of tolerance and quality control. they lack competition, they make cars for the american market and thats higly closed off and regulated away from importing much so an american customer cant for example compare an f150 to a hilux, thats just not an option. he will buy the f150 and think thats how trucks should be. but when such truck is exported here and we can compare them its not that good... its great but not as expected, no diesel option, would probably buy hilux over it...

They're just corner cutters. compulsive corner cutters. Always have been.
They don't innovate or change. It's always some 6 liter motor with 300hp or the interior is totally cheaped out on or it's got some gay contemporary take on 50s 60s style. Like really the only USDM doing anything worth note is Ford and they're heavily UK/JP

American cars were made for long distance rides, hence the size, engine and above mentioned comfort; european ones, for short distance and old towns.

I've had to do a major service on my 2019 expedition for three weeks in a row. And there's an oil change any day now.
That said, it is a comfortable ride, and it is getting near 100k so you have to expect some stuff to wear out.
