literally ALL information online about transmission fluids and changing transmission fluids is conflicting. Even the manufacturer's instructions are conflicting

It costs 100 currencies to do a trans oil change, just do it once every two years and get it over with, why even bother with all this "research" for something so cheap and easy to do

but changing your oil can destroy your transmission
changing your oil is pointless because the manufacturer claims it is a lifetime fluid
changing your fluid using "universal" transmission fluid" destroys your transmission
Flushing is better than drain and fill
Drain and fill is better than Flushing

which one is it you faggqot

>but changing your oil can destroy your transmission
IF it has never been done and the car is decades old but I'd still do it anyway
>changing your oil is pointless because the manufacturer claims it is a lifetime fluid
lifetime = warranty length
>changing your fluid using "universal" transmission fluid" destroys your transmission
use the shit specified for your car silly ding dong
>Flushing is better than drain and fill
no one says this
>Drain and fill is better than Flushing
many are saying this

>my car has gone 300k miles without ever changing the transmission fluid

>but changing your oil can destroy your transmission
the most retarded take I have ever heard, not a single qualified person would ever say stupid shit like this
>changing your oil is pointless because the manufacturer claims it is a lifetime fluid
marketing strategy by the manufacturer to sell the "low maintenance" meme to people
>changing your fluid using "universal" transmission fluid" destroys your transmission
Correct, each gearbox uses a different type of oil, depending on the operating temperature, type of gearbox etc.
>Flushing is better than drain and fill
Correct
>Drain and fill is better than Flushing
Wrong, by flushing you remove the gunk that accumulated around the pinions, and some gunk will also falls from between the pinion teeth
All industrial gearboxes have maintenance intervals for the oil change, not just car gearboxes

So how could corollas with cvts make it past 200k with no fluid change?

Entirely depends on the oil type used, and what wear and tear is generated in the gearbox, if the assembly generates lower friction and heat, and if the oil is of high quality, and the gearbox is airtight, then the oil will not wear down much over the decades
>t. maintenance mechanic
I replaced oil in all types of industrial gearboxes, and in some of them the oil turned to black tar after less than one year, while others were untouched for 15 years and the oil was still clean and had good viscosity

when people say flushing is bad, they're generally referring to external high pressure flushing machines. the best way to flush is to use the tranny's own oil pump to pump out old oil as you pour in fresh oil through the dipstick.

I say change the MT fluid and diff fluid(s) every 100k. Might as well change the fuel filter at the same time instead of waiting for it to clog. But you do you.

my theory is if the transmission fluid has never been changed, and the transmission dies after flushing it; it was going to die in the very near future anyways.
Or what probably happens more often than not
>hey my transmission is slipping
>better take it in for a service
>whaaat? i had the fluid replaced, and now it's even worse!!

Saying transmission fluid is 'lifetime' is just a fancy way of saying
>we expect the car to die at 100k miles, and we want you to buy a new one.
my last car was a 135i and the BMW recommendation was to never change the fluid as it was a 'lifetime' fluid, however Getrag recommends 40k mile fluid changes.

Fuckers.

>Saying transmission fluid is 'lifetime' is just a fancy way of saying "we expect the car to die at 100k miles, and we want you to buy a new one."
This is actually true.
Same with things like Range Rover recommending 21k mile oil changes on a turbo 4-cylinder pushing 5000+ lbs.

No one knows anything there is just enough confident people on earth for us to pretend like we do.

>No one knows anything
>There is people
Speak for yourself, you can't even pluralize correctly. Everything around you was made by people including the timing and fuel tables in your car's engine and the engine's materials and design. Think about that.

It's not rocket sience. The correct amount and type of ATF will keep your transmission working as intended

>but changing your oil can destroy your transmission
In some cases on torque converter automatics, old fluid can keep the transmission from slipping. But the trans is already on it's last legs at that point, just a matter of how many more weeks of driving you can get out of it before it shits itself
But because factoid tells people no maintenance is just fine everyone likes to spread it, to the point it's more of an urban myth than advice
>Flushing is better than drain and fill
>Drain and fill is better than Flushing
You can do a few flushes (for example annually) or drain and refill once, just replace the fluid at some point

>>28693312
Lifetime fluid was introduced to reduce maintenance cost, big deal for fleet sales
Also ruined my torque converter, love it
