I'm done w/ the Germans, my mom's BMW has started throwing codes left and right as well. The only reason she bought a BMW was b/c of all the shit she went thru w/ her previous Mercedes - ball joints would only last 30k mi (a 70yr old woman at the helm), a constant surging i could never trace and a host of other crap i forget.
It only had 50k on it when shit went downhill. Kept it until 120k but something needed chasing down like every 3mo. We used to get 300k out of Mercedes, at least those built prior to 95. She had a 99 diesel that was a sign of things to come...rusted before our eyes and don't get me started on having to replace those o-rings in the fueling system...like WTF Mercedes???
I had a 2013 Jetta w/ the old 2.0 and i've done 0 to it other than change the oil. Just gave it to my nephew who turned 16, hopefully it'll get him thru high school.
Only alternative is to buy Japanese...but they lack soul and from things i've been reading on here, they aren't what they used to be either.
And i've always felt that Japanese suspensions lack sidebite/feel, esp felt in the rain. A much safer drive, the Germans. Currently considering a Ridgeline that will have to last me 20yrs. Would get a new Miata but the Ridgeline is the same money.
