Thinking of switching the Twingo out for a first gen Dodge Neon. Talk me into it.

PS I'm in Europe

Probably wouldn't unless you can get one of the special Neons (ACR, R/T, SRT-4) to match the snek, but I'm biased as a Twongi owner.

Finding a pre 2000 one is challenging in itself. And it is what I want (same dumbass look on it's face as the Twingo).
I Think a CS is the max I could reasonably get.

Dump the Calibra instead.

Wait for the new Twingo

That is not going to happen. Because sentimental value and ITB's.

I can drive 10 petrol Twingo's into the ground, including tax, insurance and fuel before breaking even on that.
It's a car to drive to work and pick up some shopping so economics is a thing.

Do we even have Darts in Europe?
Pretty sure Chrysler just sold Voyagers and 300s while importers sold Challangers and RAMs here

the dart is based on the alfa giulietta so technically you had it before us.
if any euro is going to buy one i highly recommend avoiding all models but the 1.4 turbo with a manual. they're all slow but that one at least sounds good and is highly tunable. the mitsubishi/hyundai 2.0L n/a engine is somehow less reliable than an italian turbo 4.

Europe only got Chrysler Neons, only 4 doors and SOHC, none of the performance variants afaik

We got the SRT4 from 2002 to 2005.

The 4 door is what I'm after, eastern block somehow a couple of 2 doors pop up.
Performance is a none issue for me for this type of car.

Dart is nice, but not in the market for one. The Avenger would be a better contender really (cheapness).

As an American, the appeal of he neon was that it was cheaper to buy than an equivalent escort/focus/cavalier. And everyone I knew that bought one came to regret it. Get a focus if for some reason you have to replace the twingy and don't want another.
I had a 2.3 ST over 260k miles, and would probably still be driving it if I hadn't traded it in for a 3 series ten years ago. (The 3 series is already dead.)

why not go for smth like Alfa 156 GTA SW
its an estate so bit more practical while being pretty cool with its ff 3,2V6

eastern euros+russia had a lot of grey imports from the US in the late 90s-2010s
>>28699874
only as grey imports, not officially. And OP wants a 1st gen car anyway

Alfa? No thank you.

>>28699929
Yup first gen 4 door. If possible with the cruise control.
Just wondering about the slushbox. Is this specific one horrible, or doable?
Anonymous No.28700346 [Report]
>>28700236
fuck if I know.
Coincidentally the only a car I ever drove with a 3 speed slushbox was a Twingo kek
Anonymous No.28700373 [Report]
1st gen neons were cockroaches mechanically, the second gens were only held back by their autotragic trannies acking themselves.
Had a relative with a 1.8 litre 1st gen chrysler neon who put 800k km on the thing, drove it all over Europe and across Russia a couple of times.
Never missed a beat.

I had 2nd gen neon so I can't talk about 1st gen but my 2nd gen WAS THE SHITTIEST CAR I'VE EVER HAD

and i've already had a bunch of shitboxes and even 40yo mazda was more reliable than 20yo neon
