Why are LEDs so expensive?
Looking into LEDs for my offroad farm truck, and these GTR ultra 2/3s, Morimotos (same company), and Diode Dynamics are like $250 for a twin pack.

At least the GTRs are brighter than stock, but DDs are the same lux as stock so I dont get the upsell.

You don't need super high end bubs for a farm truck. I just paid like $50 for a set of 4 LED headlight bulbs. Their brightness and light quality is pretty good but it's too early to tell what their longevity will be like. even if they only last a year it's still almost more economical than the expensive bulbs.

No, it results in poorer lighting for the driver too. Headlights are more like spotlights than flood lights because you need to see out in the distance and what you get with the light kernel being in the wrong location is a floodlight which is terrible for driving.

Are you fucking braindead? Current generation LEDs essentially replicate the filament shape of a halogen. They work perfectly in projector or reflector housings. The only think you need to do is sometimes adjust the rotation of the emitter array (they come with a nut you can loosen and spin it around) and then of course adjust the vertical and horizontal orientation of the assembly using the vehicle's adjustment screws.

Pretty much. I got tired of swapping headlight bulbs or starting up my car to find one burned out instantly after switching them on.

I think the Chinesium pair I got on Amazon was $30. It's definitely less bright than a conventional halogen, but the perceived brightness is much higher. Since I'm not replacing a bulb every year, I consider that a win. It's already paid for itself by this point.

They won't cause any catastrophic failures but running aftermarket bulbs in a canbus cucked vehicle can cause lots of little issues like error messages, bleeding lights, flickering, hyperflashing, etc.

OP why would you not just get a roof mounted light bar if this is indeed a "farm truck", that way you dont need to fuckabout with anything and can still run the truck on the road if need be.
>bulbs always be burnin out
If that is because of what I think it's from you'll be disappointed with LEDs unless you manage to effectively actively cool them.
Headlight housings get hot with standard/halogen bulbs when there's no airflow. Can go up 100 degrees waiting 2 minutes for a train.
LEDs dont produce as much heat, but they are very small chips (diodes but bear with me) and being chips are sensitive to their own heat.

You'll find some cheapass XINGFONGWU XTUDHDDKK brand amazon specials really wont like sitting in a parked truck blazing away, and that the high tier brands expensive units are worth the price.

>LEDs dont produce as much heat, but they are very small chips (diodes but bear with me) and being chips are sensitive to their own heat.
Some of those expensive LED headlight assemblies in new cars have quite a bit of cooling built into them. Even little computer fans, presumably industrial-spec ones that can handle adverse conditions. LEDs hate heat.
A single bulb with poor heatsinking, a reflector around it to trap heat and the power electronics crammed in there somewhere too, is just about the worst possible packaging for an LED lamp.
Anonymous No.28701506 [Report]
Sealite and other low price LED, reflector housing compat bulbs are known to die in a year or less.
Also the most sold LED replacement bulbs are pure fucking junk.
Reviews are worthless, ratings dont mean anything. If it says 4.6 on amazon take that as a 60% out of 100 - a D grade when you want B+ minimum.
The only real choices for a quality LED are too bright for legal road use, too high K color to be legal, or the only other option being the yellow Mishimoto 2stroke.
There's a reason even those high price name brands tell you they arent road legal.

Dont put LEDs in a halogen/reflector headlight.
Just don't do it.
And THEN, when you dig into the info about high output halogens, you're paying an extreme premium for a bulb that will only last 1-1.5 years.

It just isn't worth it.

And that's exactly why they cost so much. To function with reflector housings correctly, you need LEDs to be small and on a very thin substrate to simulate the point light that halogens have, and small and thin, even at LED power consumption levels, means nuclear levels of heat that has to be dissipated quickly. A lot of cars also have detection for burnt out bulbs, except LEDs trigger them too because they are so efficient.

You're gonna have to buy from one of the manufacturers who got them certified of course, and for a car that they're homologated for. Just like rims or other tuning parts in europe.
You might be getting cucked by your countries politicians too. Even harder so than the germans by TÜV it would seem.
Alas, the statement that there's only a handful of homologations for eastern european countries that's no longer extending has been disproven.
The H11 LED for retrofit is even fully ECE compliant for every single headlight that will take H11-bulbs. The H4 and H7 are approved for retrofit in hundreds of cars.
