Will the Tesla Cybertruck prove to be a good patrol vehicle?

Las Vegas gets hot during the summer but the heat isn't problematic to driving, my cars from the 90s stayed cool just turned the heater on in traffic jams

Lots of Teslas on the road in Vegas, I don't know about for patrol cars but folks are driving them around all year

I can only imagine crazy repair costs whenever they get a minor damage.

huh? They're pretty common in North America. In my city it's a 50/50 mix of Explorers and F150's with a few Silverado interceptors. A pickup is a better sedan so it makes an ideal police cruiser.

I'm not even sure what they're going to be used for. I guess supplement their already existing fleet of ford pickups that they use as their "tactical vehicles." I have to say, the cybertruck does look a lot better when wrapped

What happens when it catches fire while somebody is cuffed in the back seat?
Anonymous No.28699817 [Report]
Wait, that shit actually looks pretty good as a cop car

>meme-vehicle
>being used in a serious, continuous-duty situation
>except for when it's recalled, once a week
yeah that'll work out well.

You'd be surprised. Don't think I've ever seen an urban department use them, however.

"Interceptor" is strictly a Ford trim package. Before interceptor, Ford used PPP (Police Power Package)
Chevrolet has the PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle).

Those Teslas are driving narrow clavicle having men to the coffee shop and then whole foods. Let me know how they hold up responding to Puerto Rican street brawls and blacks fleeing in stolen vehicles for an entire shift

They are very common outside of cities.

if elon musk was actually a brilliant genius... he is not, he would make a police fleet ICE version of teslas with toyota hybrid powertrains
Anonymous No.28702781 [Report]

Cops drive ~100 miles a day on average and maybe max of ~200 miles if you're far off in rural area.

If you're driving an electric car, then you're basically starting your daily drive with 300-400 miles of range with 90% charge. And cops in city do avg driving speed of ~30mph for most of the day when driving, and many times, they're just idling for hours at end waiting. If you're a police department, you're saving ~$100/car per day on gas alone. So if the car is being utilized daily, thats a saving of ~$37K per year, on one police shift. If the car is being utilized with 2 shifts, thats $75K in gas savings per year. Charging at police station with level 2 only takes like 2-3 hours. Charging at dedicated L3 charger takes like 30 minutes, basically cops eating lunch in their car and charging.

Very nice of Elon to strike yet another deal so that taxpayer money can subsidize his business, or in this case the failed cybertruck project.
Can't wait for the lawsuits when this shit catches fire while someone's cuffed in the back.
