I'm looking for a new winter shit box and I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2007 BMW 328xi with 125k on the clock. The seller looks sketchy, but it does have a manual transmission.

Tell me why it's a bad idea.

Decreased suspension travel particularly in the front.
My mom had a pre-LCI e90 330xi sedan and it was such a terrible car. Every time you hit a medium sized pothole it no joke felt like a grenade exploded.
When she bought the car (it was less than 1 year old with around 3k miles) two wheels were already cracked.
Other things that suck:
Softtouch interior crumbles to shit on pre-LCI
iDrive a shit
Ugly car
Imo its all the BMW bullshit with no redeeming qualities other than its cheap now. Which is not how you want to get in to BMWs. Buy a better looking car from the next or previous generation at least.

That's more a consequence of E90s using runflats rather than the suspension.

Unless you have a literal instant classic car, it's better to just drive it in the winter. Put snow tires on it if you're driving a Mustang and shit.
The amount of money you dump into a winter beater isn't going to be worth how ever much you save into preserving your car.
You can just buy a new car sooner without having to take car of a second car for years on end.
