Was he all good? No. But he is certainly one of the more influential and importabt personalities in American automotive history.

Mention of him reminds me of that 2.2 liter four that went under the hood of almost everything manufactured by Chrysler in the US from about 1981 to 1998. Not all that bad in terms of simplicity and ease of repair, and dependability up to 80K miles, but Holy smokes were they lame on expressways, and almost universally dead above anything like 100K miles. I remember going about going about 70 , on I65, into a 20MPH headwind in a Reliant K, and noticing my foot was all the way to the floor,

Chrysler vans came to be due to him. That Nissan did not get the average American (pre-suv era) into a mini van but EE OY O COKE A sure as shit did
