Look. I love magnas, I love pajeros, I love GTOs, but their cars were just shit. They always were. They were just cool enough to make people see past their many flaws, and then they weren't. They're dead and nobody, not even Mitsubishi cares. Their heavy industries are their money maker anyway.

Had a super vivid dream about being the CEO of Mitsubishi motors a while back.

>Strategy is that Mitsubishi would be known for making some of the harder core cars in each segment, including commercial vehicles
>montero as a bonafide prado/land cruiser competitor
>eclipse as a hot hatch on par with a golf R, civic R, carolla gr
>Lancer as the sport sedan
>GTO/3000GT renamed Reisen/Zero as a sports car of approximately corvette capability
>Fuso is gold standard for medium duty commercial trucks in terms of reliability and quality

Basically steer the company away from the trap they’re in where instead of being the vehicles of choice for those with poor credit, they’d be a legitimate alternative whatever is the best in the segment.

>>28704180
Their cars were not shit though, the owners who got in with cheap credit scores on the other hand..

>inb4 muh reliability doe
They're reliable, if they weren't they wouldn't be the kings of Dakar. They used the 6G for that. Never forget that.
Anonymous No.28704192 [Report]
>>28704186
Yes, I know they were successful rally cars, I posted a fucking example of one. You can attest to the one example in which they actually excelled but for the consumer the average 6g in a pajero or a magna was a total shitpile. The chryslers that got those engines were also just as bleak. The 6g74 may not have been as bad but the 72 was not a good engine by any means.

>What went wrong?
Too low quality to compete with Toyota and Honda, too expensive to compete with Suzuki, too boring to compete with Mazda and Subaru.
>How would you fix them?
Stop using retarded names like "space star".
Make a deal with Chinese EV manufacturers and just slap the Mitsubishi logo on a Geely/Aiways/Skywell/Whateverothercrap and sell it with a slight markup to unsuspecting gaijins.

Has anyone bought an Outlander recently? There’s something alluring about it and its being heavily discounted. I know its going to break my heart and be a piece of shit but what if it doesnt?
Anonymous No.28705812 [Report]
They need to cut ties with renault
We need lancer and lancer evo back, eclipse as a light awd sports coupe, maybe galant as an rwd sports sedan, pajero evo would sell like hot cakes.an awd hot hatch to compete with civic type r's,few pickups for yankees, new 3000 gto that doesnt have engine made out of paper and a halo car, something as impressive as nsx was in the 90s.
Stop slapping names of beloved cars on cuckovers and make cuckovers look good (just a smaller less rugged pajero)
But first they would need to get quality control and brand image unfucked

I feel if the made a modern Pajero EVO it would do pretty good in the US. Something small akin to the Jimny but with more power. I feel would do pretty good in today's SUV obsessed market.

Ancient history. The first car I owned was a '79 blue Dodge Colt, a re-branded little Mitsubishi 4-door. Very Japanese-looking and sized, simple, easily repairable, and dependable even in satanically frigid conditions, down to -24F. Pretty sprightly little bitch, with a 1.6 L 4, 90HP, drivetrain in its mere 1800 pound frame. My next older sister totaled it, and, believe me, I made her pay.

>Take universally loved 2G Eclipse (Turbo Charged, AWD) and make it heavier, remove the turbo, lower the power by 8%, and make it FWD only.
>Take the EVO and make it look like shit with an unproven engine.
>Turn the eclipse brand into a fucking economy crossover lmao
>Pump out shitty cheap cars that are 5 years old when brand new

Mitsubishi should have leaned into its performance division and kept selling enthusiast cars, even at a loss it would have pumped up brand image.

It probably also didn't help that their 10-year powertrain warranty they introduced in 2004 was not transferable, which means depreciation was a nightmare.

>Revamp their lineup to be entirely FWD economy boxes with more premium hybrid-AWD versions with batteries powering the rear wheels for drivetrain parity
>Evo being a hybrid means it no longer penalized by emissions restrictions
>Build a sporty off-roading crossover based to take advantage of their Dakar racing heritage and attract crossover buyers who inevitably "want something sportier"
>Take advantage of Mitsubishi-Honda alliance to build the Eclipse, basically make it be a manual-equipped AWD Prelude making ~300hp

It's an EV, built on tech from Renault subsidiary Ampere.
Probably shares a few parts with the new Nissan Leaf, too, though the Nissan's a bit more than a quick rebadge.

I say they go the muscle car route and drop a truck engine in a coupe body. Which for them would taking the Triton's 2.4L engine and 6-speed and building a mid-size coupe around it.
