Why did people modifying their cars become less common?

Because manufacturers have intentionally made cars harder for the average joe to work on and modify over the years.

Months worth of carb tuning have became an afternoon on the dyno.
Integrated bumpers killed the idea of aftermarket lights without looking trashy, same with how over-designed OEM rims are now.

The car market has deteriorated enough that just having something that isn't a crossover is enough for it to be noticed now. Don't need to modify it to stand out from the crowd.

Where do you live? Every second vehicle here is a lifted and modified pickup. I see a shitload of riced out BRZ's, WRX's, etc. I wouldn't say it's any less common. The only thing I don't see/hear anymore is custom sound systems.

What the fuck are you talking about?
Anonymous No.28705500 [Report]
Because they were made fun of.
Everyone in 2025 is afraid of showing personality, because that means you care about something, are genuine, and are open to attack by people who surround themselves with a surface layer of irony and just make fun of everyone else.

Because every little aesthetic mod is considered riced now. I remember in the 00s when you would go to a car meetup with 20 Civics and not one looked the same.

If you buy a new Mustang what do you even modify. Many people drive SUV's, whats the point of even modifying. Turbo cars are pretty powerful already, seems like not much benefit. I think its just harder to buy a car and think I just really need to modify this one thing to make it perfect.

Because cars are 100x harder to modify now,not just the drivetrain, you can't just slap on a bodykit anymore you have to adapt all the sensors and alltdat BS for example

Exhaust, suspension, cooling, supercharger parts, oil separator, fueling, roll cage

None of those mods are exciting to the drooling majority that consider themselves enthusiasts.

Old civics were too good for this ugly world.

Just like with computers, humanity produced a very limited run of people who know how to work on and modify cars, and the last of us are now in our 40s and drive fucking minivans.

ppl realized it kills the resale value

this pretty much.
people still mod their cars, but it's mostly performance mods under the hood now.

Because modern cars are ugly, uninspired, and soulless.

And that still affects resale value, no one wants a 90s coupe with 50000 mods bolted on, they want a stock one to do their shit in, but most retards dont understand this and still ask not just to get the money they spent on buying the car back but also their turbos, exhausts, cone air filters and stiff suspension set ups
