I feel like car companies have been making mistakes for 20 years by hiring people in "UX design" for their dumb infotainment systems instead of hiring like, game developers and shit. Hire the guys who made the HUD for Gran Turismo 3.

Clearly I'm in the wrong and the minority here because normalfags eat up the tabletslop but I can still bitch.

Nissan literally hired Polyphony Digital for the screens in the R35 GT-R

automotive software devs are bottom of the barrel because the pay sucks. Anyone who is skilled goes to an actual software company. Most of this shit is outsourced to the lowest bidder anyways.

As a GMT800 owner I kind of wish I had a digital dash instead of a noisy, non trustworthy and unreliable electro mechanical dash.

yeah, and nissan's sports car dashes are nicer than every other mass produced brand from an aesthetic and readability standpoint

>piss-poor information visibility
Like pic related miserable piece of shit in late model Perterbilts.
>some gauges are round and some are bars
>silver "bezels" except when they're the indicator bars
>red is the warning zone except when they're the indicator you're supposed to watch like the tach (around the outside of the speedo)
At least the voltage reading (which is text like nothing else there lmao) goes green when running and charging.

>No visibility of revs or gearing whatsoever
>have to open a new app to time my laps at the track
>gotta to go to settings to know your mileage per gallon
>battery level is the only thing visible
Lmfao that’s a damn smartphone toy. You’re gonna tell me you have a fucking TV sized screen and nothing on it is related to the status of the vehicle?

There's nothing I hate more than haltech etc digital dashes in classic cars
They are pointless and take away soul of having analog dash
It's just lazy because they can't be bothered to make the ecu work with the original dash

digital display was james bond tier shit in the 1990s, but I kindof don't like it now.
I'd rather it all mechanical sweeps.

that racepak is 750 bucks from summit. not a fortune but definitely not cheap either. with the rest of the stuff needed to run it in the first place it quickly runs the price up to 2-3 grand

Screens for the sake of screens are a bad thing. Every item on the race gauge has a useful purpose, and is only animated or smoothed to the extent necessary to understand the information presented. Meanwhile the Tesla screen uses animation and design flourishes as a crutch for the basic truth that the screen is intrusive and poorly placed
Anonymous No.28707182 [Report]
Touchscreens don't give any touch feedback, therefore forcing the driver to take the eyes off the road to do anything

Screens as a display are good
Screens as controls are bad

Those stupid dial jpgs take up half the screen when most of them could be bar gauges anyway. Like literally just ditch the fake gauges and put your speed in nice big digits right on the top center.

>Do you think you can just waltz into a Tesla dealership and get a replacement center screen?

I dont think so

Interesting fact - In new Audis and BMWs, to properly replace the battery, you need to connect a computer and first check the battery type (standard or AGM). Second, you need to check the battery's coded capacity. Third, when you install a new one, you need to tell the car that it has a new one and change the parameters so it knows how to charge it. The car itself checks the battery and decides the charging voltage.
