They are bloody good basic town hacks. If I was in the market for a first car it'd be down to black or white.
Pandas also come in 100hp and 4wd versions.

Yeah I had one, great engine for the car.
Not as noisy as the petrol engine on the highway, much wider powerband, enough torque to do four wheel skids in the snow and on wet roads

fuel economy wasn't too great, but then mine was a 4x4, so it was lifted and constantly spinning the transfer case around

obviously. why would i buy anything else? tdi's today almost outperforms gas. not really in bigger'ish engines but if your option is 1L'ish and you can choose between one than might chug around beteeen 2-3000 rpm and one that needs to scream at 4000++ just to haul a bag of groceries uphill i go for the first even if its slightly slower. not to mention the mpg and the fact tdi is far easier to tune.
is there really anyone who doesnt have some kind of box, chip or reprogramming on their tdi today? i got it on both my current and have done the diy trick on mechanic pumps and wastegates in the past. good look doing any of that on a na gas car and its a bit limited how far you can go on a turbo and even then its gonna be a screamer.

Idk why the ecofags want diesel gone when its much more efficient for heavy lifting. A little car like the panda with TDI will be flying before you even touch the pedal.
