the next gen slk is a lot better/improved, if you can find that used, I'd recommend it

Yeah it's an early one with a re-skin. A neighbour has a Crossfire and it still lives despite spending its entire life outside in the UK.

chrysler has some magic power of creating shitty cars that end up popular in europe

On same street in Poland I have seen 1 crossfire and 2 lebaron cabrios. All from different houses.

you are gonna spend thousands on the 1700 car just to keep it drivable anyways

>is the slk a shitty car?
first gen: yes
second gen: not nearly as much
(same for z3 vs z4 the first gen always used awful archaic tech/engines)

look into it, if you like the idea of a compact roadster with luxury, it's a better thing

>oh really, what are the well known failure points on these cars?
it's probably 1700 because the brakes are shot the engines is leaking oil etc.
you will have to do thousands of repairs if you actually want it in perfect shape, and if anything brakes parts are scarce and expensive

no one is expecting a 1700€ car to be in perfect shape
>brakes parts are scarce and expensive
lmao

I would assume any 1700 euro car is a shitbox good luck

You're gonna have to do every wear item on a 1700 car. Fluids, filters, belts, seals, brakes, tires, bushings. That's assuming it hasn't been neglected to the point of serious damage.

I hated this car because you couldn’t turn it for shit in gran turismo 4 so fuck it

>it's slow, it doesn't handle, the wheel is on the wrong side but at least the interior is shit!

Don’t listen to this wrenchlet.
Super easy maintenance with many shared Merc SLK230 bin parts that you’ll find anywhere.

The only thing I really dislike about this car is the recirculating sphere steering rack, which removes all the road feel, but it’s light and comfy as shit. This steering track was made for bigger Mercs where the design goal was to allow the backseat passenger to have a hot tea without spilling.

these are really unreliable and if it's 1700, it's totally fucked up

I have an slk 230.
The interior is terrible and the plastics are not orderable. Many things buzz from poor fitment, and I can't take it apart to fix it because the plastic clips will disintegrate.

Roof hydraulics mainly have one seal that goes bad that ruins the headliner(unorderable). Fix that and it's reliable.

MAF gets dirty now and again because the air oil separator isn't great.

Security brick in the car WILL die, and you cannot order a new one. I forget where but there's a guy you ship it to that disables the feature so it doesn't brick the car.

Handles well, will it 150mph. I've hit about 135mph with the top down. Super planted at speed.

I bought a cayman 718 to replace it.
