I learned that some of you are shit drivers because you literally only see blackness when you close your eyes and you can't plan the route in your head beforehand, so you rely 100% entirely on GPS even in your home city.

You also can't see a picture of a car in your mind when you close your eyes, only the black emptiness, which is why some of you can drive ugly cars since you can't picture the car unless you're literally staring at it.

I can navigate without a gps, albeit I do have google maps on for navigating to someones house for example when going to buy something from a private seller, but the drive through the country I can do without.

A couple of years ago I drove my parents across Europe on a roadtrip that they sid when I was about 10 or so, so 20 years ago, still remembered the route to our destination which was a godsend because my data plan shat the bed and got capped.

Also seeing pictures in my mind is how I usually try to fix shit, I visualise how the parts are supposed to work and interface with each other for example.
Was really handy when my mate gave me the transmission of his kawasaki eliminator that was completely disassembled into bits.

if you claim to be able to physically see a red star on the back of your eyelids when you close your eyes then you're a liar. you can imagine it with your "mind's eye" but you won't literally see it.

What is it called when I can imagine/visualize/reanimate familiar scenarios, like things that have already happened before, but I struggle to visualize completely novel things, like "imagine an upside down clock on an orange wall with a green cat underneath"

For complex objects like clocks I can only visualize a circle with some numbers on it, but i can't render more detail than that unless i think hard. Like an extremely primitive generative AI. So maybe I'm half retarded.

I only ever use a map when I'm driving somewhere for the first time and I don't know the area very well, be it a random shop on the other side of town or some place three hours away

even then, didn't have satnav readily available until this year and I did fine. would just looked up a route in advance and made mental notes of important directions
