Why do these seem particularly expensive compared to other used trucks of the same year and mileage?
Even when the engines don't work in them, I've seen them listed on fb for $10k+ easily.

good off roaders. I guess the supply is low because of how ugly it is so not many people bought them

They weren't worth shit for a long time until the whole overlanding LARP really took off.

IMO Toyota did a really bad job of marketing it too, I think most people thought it was a total fashion vehicle like the PT Cruiser or whatever (not helped by the similar name) and didn't realize how capable it actually was. That probably led to a lot of people test driving them because they were "cute" and not being able to handle a legit 4x4 too. I'm an oldfag who was really into cars and owned a WRX when the FJ came out in the US and I certainly never realized how legit they were until years later.

>when the engines don't work
the 1gr-fe needs head gaskets after 200k but kind of nothing else goes wrong, other than wear items like timing chain tensioners. They don't even eat water pumps.

they have a cult following. the frames on them rust out really bad. the interior is entirely made of plastic (on purpose, so you can hose it out lol). the windshield always breaks too because its vertical

Went to look at one at a buy here/pay here place and there was a 2007 with pretty bad rust on the interior and exterior that I could immediately see without any prior auto knowledge. The Paki that owned the place was charging $12k for it despite the emergency brake not working and none of the seatbelts fastening. That kept me from purchasing but within 2 weeks he'd sold it so people don't seem to care about that and they'll pay whatever for an FJ for some reason.

It's cute and reliable. The design is timeless.

not sure why people buy these over 100 series land cruisers

>The design is timeless
This is the real reason. People paying a premium for niche vehicles tend top hold onto them for a long time so aesthetics matter. Plus the fact that they hold onto them means the market is limited.

It's basically a stubby 4runner mechanically. Approach and departure are pretty good.

My major complaint with this vehicle is the back and rear passenger window are absolute DOGSHIT. No thought whatsoever for practical use.

there's a reason it's still for sale and not sold

They're not that expensive. Where do you live?

They are better than a 4Runner both in looks and function. I would have bought one myself if not for the Toyota tax. They get dogshit gas mileage and tend to rust really easily, so I get the skepticism

This was the last time Toyota put the twin stick manual in a vehicle. The 4x4 selector in the Tacoma and Tundra always ends up sticking and failing to engage if you never use it but no such issue with a twin stick. If someone is heavily modifying their Tacoma, the transmission from these is one of the things they try to swap in.

I was looking at a used manuél FJ for sale 3-4 years ago. Stupid high mileage, and the price was stupid high too. The Toyota tax is real. Ended up in a minty GMT800 burb for 3x less the price lol.

People think their high mileage old used shit is worth gold. It's not.

Because I want a car that's not going to break down every 5,000 miles.
You sound like a dumb Euro fag.
