I am not anti-car

I am anti suv, and anti needing a car. Modern infrastructure like in South Korea shows that you can have cities where cars are not required but are also very well serviceed.

SUVs make driving worse. They take up more room on the road, they make it impossible to see what's going on in front because they are so high, in the last year I was almost in two different car crashes in parking lots because SUVs have incredibly poor visibility.

I can't think of any other vehicle that makes driving worse for both the owner and everyone around them.

This stupid thing is being advertised as practical and rugged off-road and luxury. Very few people in this country go off-road. And the ones that do are not going to buy one of these things that is too wide to go on the off-roading tracks anyway.

As someone who actually lives out in the country, I'll back this up. Around here you mostly see Subarus, Honda Elements (for whatever reason), and the men will drive a proper truck if they do any sort of blue collar work.

Americans are so repulsive. If you need the size, why not just get a wagon? Truth is a sedan is more than fine for 99% of all our daily tasks. And you also get a car that weighs less and with better MPG. Make sedans standard cars again.

Wagon choices are limited in North America and they're expensive for what you get. The cheapest is probably the Outback which usually go for well over $40k. There are a plethora of pickup truck, SUV and crossover choices in the $40-50k range which are more practical and useful than a wagon. Sedans dies because they're fucking useless. Just getting groceries for a family with one is annoying compared to just throwing everything into the overgrown hatchback. The same goes for loading big baby strollers and shit.

the suv hate is misplaced. it hold some validity against suburbans, excursions, escalades, landcruisers, range rovers they are kinda big and oversized for what most use them for. but the average suv is a small to medium sized hatchback with a higher roof, more comfort and awd/ground clearance. thoose are the ones who recieve this hate, meanwhile a large wagon or estate will actually leave a bigger footprint.

you miss on all points. if all you need of a car is a thing with wheel that can commute you on flat and well maintaned tarmac aka what most normal cars are made for, well then you dont need a car, take the bus instead. if you do own land, farm, work in trades or anything outside of browsing legal pdf's or coding in a cubicle you need a car and then why not just get a suv or truck since your job or lifestyle will sooner or later if not daily take you out of that urban comfort zone where everything is maintaned.

I have a wagon and they aren’t as useful as family cars as they used to be because they don’t have the rear facing third row anymore. It’s just a sedan with more cargo capacity in back. AWD or 4WD SUVs make sense for families with 3+ kids in snowy climates. Where I live going “off road” means class vi roads that haven’t been maintained for 100+ years that are full of huge rocks and ruts. They are inaccessible to anything except lifted Jeeps or dual sport bikes.
