SoW Extended is not a road, it's wide and the corners are all wide and high-speed. It's utterly humiliating that the Camaro was matched by a cheaper car that's completely out of its element.

My Niva has been bomb proof mechanically, sure there's rust that I'm welding up this very moment, but that aside it's been a very reliable car.
I sold my Nissan truck to buy this thing and don't regret it at all, it's been much more reliability than my Nissan was.

A road is made up of tarmac. If you’re shit on tarmac then you’re shit “on road” by definition. Did you forget the Camaro is on all seasons and does not have a power advantage? The Yaris gr is not cheaper, and losing despite being on better tires denotes a handling disadvantage. the only reason the Yaris even got close to the Camaro on streets of willow is its faster straight line performance. So the Camaro would just shit on the Yaris even harder in your example road.

The 3cyl exists for homologation reasons. It's one of the reasons why the Yaris mogs everything in Rally2 at the moment (the Rally1 car is forced to use an I4, partially because allowing the I3 would've resulted in even more Toyotawinslol). The way the rules are written, the I3 shits on every 4cyl at low RPMs, the only area where you can really make a difference.

Is this supposed to be an own? Tarmac is not a uniform thing, and even if you did use the exact same formulation on a track and on a mountain road, the difference in shape would make the driving contitions completely incomparable.
The reason the modified Skoda mogs the modified 911 in rallying is entirely down to the bodystyle. The modern sports- and supercar is too wide, not agile enough, and generally too cumbersome for rallying. Rally cars are designed to be unstable and therefore handle poorly at the sorts of speeds you get on a circuit, which is why the GR Yaris (the only modern road car with rally car-like handling) matching the Camaro on a circuit is humiliating for the Camaro.

The problem with this line of thinking is that you can say any road is too wide and has too many straights when you lose. 99% of roads will be more like streets of willow than this theoretical road that is so narrow only a kei car will fit on it that you’re thinking of. Even on Japanese roads, the Yaris gr still loses to the same kinds of cars that dominate on streets of willow. And this Yaris is modified against this stock boomer spec vette. Road conditions on most roads will not be so restrictive that the only thing that matters is whether or not you can squeeze through something, and if desperately trying to find a road that is while losing everywhere else you can possibly drive on earth is your criteria, you can’t actually say it’s best for on road performance.

The only place the Yaris would have an advantage, is not on anything paved.

It's not a surprise either. If hatchbacks didn't mog everything, the WRC would've long since moved to a more glamorous and marketable bodystyles. But they didn't, because that would result in a too large drop in perfomance. Short wheelbase hatchbacks mog all on real roads, and even on race tracks perform so well that more specialised bodystyles are barely worth it.

One of the main problems the WRC is facing is the cars, if it were using the same sort of vehicles as a base as say, GT3, it would be more popular because small hatchbacks aren't in vogue. The problem with doing that can be seen in R-GT however, the vehicles used as a base for GT cars just fucking suck for rallying, unless they're tiny shit like the A110, which in good conditions and driven by Seb Loeb can just about beat 2nd tier rally cars driven by semi-pros.

The Yaris is doing so well it's looking better even in your cherrypicked examples against cars that according to you should absolutely wipe the floor with it, even in situations where it's out of its element. The features that make it a good rally car (short wheelbase, small overhangs resulting in high agility/instability) are clearly doing the heavy lifting here.
Again, if the WRC could switch to a more marketable bodystyle (i.e. coupes with a longer wheelbase), they would. The problem is that you'd have to drive the costs through the roof to get even comparable performance. RallyGT already exists and clearly demonstrates the problems with using such cars for rallying.
The compact hatchback bodystyle is there because it performs best, it isn't rocket science.
