Yeah I didn't like their regional groupings either, but it's one of the more comprehensive studies I've seen on the subject of mature forest blocks and total area in the US. They also included a different set of regions like pic rel which conforms to more traditional regions (like the south, and core SW US). Also keep in mind mature forest is not the same as old growth on these maps, most of the area is just mature stands (~70-150 years old for deciduous, ~100-250 years old for conifer).

It's the best state if you want to avoid natural disasters. The best state for snowy forest is Idaho or Montana.

The Sierra Nevada and Cascades mnts both recieve way more snow than either ID,MT or MI. Often 600-800" per yr.

the central sierra snowlab sits at about 6,800ft- well below the treeline- and averages over 400" per yr with a record of 800+"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-prMklW1Rs

Most of Mt Baker ski area is below the treeline and routinely gets 600-800" a year.

As a kid, I watched a lot of documentaries on natural disasters and I remember thinking how cool it would be to see or experience one first hand and then I got my wish with a fairly major earthquake.
Let me tell you, it was not cool.
The shittiest thing about an earthquake is that unlike pretty much every other disaster out there, you get 0 warning.

I lived in Los Angeles during the Northridge earthquake and yeah, that was quite the experience. Not only was there zero warning, but the aftershocks, some significant, went on for weeks. At least I was at home, in bed, when it happened. People out driving around, thankfully not many, had bridges collapse under them. What a crazy way to end up suddenly dead.

Some WNYers got lucky. My friends in North Buffalo and Ken-Ton got a break in the clouds and saw part of it. I didn't see shit in Wyoming Co and neither did any of my friends/family in Rochester. The Falls also got shut out. People down in Westfield and Ripley probably saw it since Erie PA got a full viewing. Cleveland lucked out too.

Uncle Ted was correct about a great many things, but be honest and post an infographic about how much reforestation has occurred since then.
