I'm always fucking weirded out by standard gun discussion.
I am not against guns, and think they are quite fun toys, but like... I'm not buying one for self defense. I have to defend myself once every maaaaybe decade or so. I'm not getting a handgun. It's pointless for me, and will be pointless until I have to resist muggers on a yearly basis.
And those times I -did- have to defend myself? It went fuckin' fine. My largest opponents are like, dogs and humans, who both go down to being struck on the head with a pack full of books or cans or whatever the fuck else.

Honestly, the only reason I think guns are even entertained is because trapping has been made illegal in so many places. I would vastly prefer a pit of spikes and a few landmines to a gun in almost any defensive situation.

Meth heads out camping are white, and therefore have a basic sense of respect for others, even when on an amphetamine induced psychosis. Rarely will you get one wanting to harm you.
The worst thing about meth heads out camping is they are fucking loud as shit at 2am slapping their girlfriends around. They also might steal from you or just be creepy in general. But they’ll never randomly attack you.

If a meth head is being loud and obnoxious at 2 am at the campground sneak up on em where they can’t see you and in your most assertive deep man voice ask em “IS THERE A PROBLEM HERE SON?” Make it seem like you a a middle aged country boy who is always packing, even if you are not. This reminds them of their dad and their buttholes tighten up real quick. When they inevitably say “no sir no problem here!” Just say “WELP YOUR BEIN AWFULLY LOUD, PEOPLE A TRYING TO SLEEP”
And then you slip back to camp sight unseen. They will get in their truck and go away
