There used to be a "sanford lake" north of midland michigan but a few years ago the dam broke (rust belt blight) (https://youtu.be/6yuVaZFBGG8) flooding the region and when the water finally went down all it left was a little river in the middle of where the big lake used to be.
It's a really odd place where there are hundreds of meters between peoples backyard docks that used to be right on the water and the water itself, property values tanked as you can imagine so a lot of the homes are not even lived in anymore, just owned by those wealthy chinamen who buy everything in the midwest the moment it hits the market just to leave rotting.
The area is pretty dead, I've been up there a bunch are usually the only humans are hanging around the gas station where all of the food on the shelves is expired and overpriced to shit. Hundreds of deer though, probably a great place to be a redneck poacher.
You can access the river north of where the lake used to be without trespassing through yards via this piece of mostly forested public land just south of where the dam itself broke, I have caught some fat tasty walleye there when they come screaming through the tittabawasse river to and from the bay. I live in Maine now so I don't mind sharing the spot.
