land that's hilly and you can't build on is cheap, land that's flat and already has hookups for septic/water/electric is gonna run you a lot more

I do think a lot of people suffer from this. But what are successful homesteaders who "left a cushy life in the city" inspired by then? People who left their boring, monotonous jobs were dreaming of something better.

Stop demanding others give you peepee rubs and you'll stop getting kicked in the nuts.
>>2824629 >have lots of money to subsidize a fun larp lifestyle or learn to time travel
I never looked into homesteading much, but I was always curious about that
Wasn't sure if there was some trick to staying afloat financially, or you just gotta go into it with a huge nest egg or some sort of constant income to help fills in the gaps like army disability

$10k and a dream will get you a 5th wheel, an undeveloped plot of land, a meth habit, and a fat woman with no teeth.

I'm kind of doing this in northish of Toronto. Bought the land and now building the cabin. Scout the land well. A lot of cheap land has weird situations with access but sometimes can be ironed out with locals. Good neighbors can be a godsend but bad ones a nightmare. Sometimes Iand has interesting plants and features not known by sellers. Spend the effort to make sure your foundation is solid and level. It should take 50 percent of the build time imo. Invest in some decent cordless tools. I got some used paslode framing and finishing nailers for $125 and took them apart and cleaned them. Very worth it in terms of time to build using them. A good driver also has been useful. Spend extra money on good interior and exterior insulation. buy a good little stove. I have a cubic grizzly. Very small maybe too small, but also I got the roaster attachment so now I can bake and roast small meals. I think Capybara xl would be my choice if I did it again just for a bit more burn time. Spend the extra money on triple paned glass too.the better you insulate the more comfortable you're gonna be. Take some time to plant different stuff early and see what works. Very hard to grow certain things in a forest. I've got a variety of nut and fruit trees and it's been an interesting learning experience. If you can afford it get the most mature trees you can. If on a budget you can grow a lot from groceries if you are patient with time to learn from mistakes. Berries grow well in forest settings but everything grows slow there. Start them in a city yard in full sun if you are able, and transplant in fall.

It's miserable, you're likely to lose your homestead the moment anyone takes notice of you decides that they want it. You also are literally contending with literal retarded caveman aggressive drug addicts who are funded by the government to the tune of four thousand dollars a month per person, and all they want to do is fuck with you. We call them the first nations, because we're second inline to them.

This. You can still do this in alaska but that's because you get welfare from the state. In the summer there are clouds of mosquitos that block out the sun and in the winter there is no sun. You can't grow enough food but they do give you as a resident a bag limit of 1-2 fish a day for multiple species, some of them 10 a day, and some of them 2 anually. So you can fish all summer if you have a boat. You can also get subsistance hunting tier i and tier ii licenses for all the big game and a trapping license as well which includes beaver so you can do this all fall and winter. You could probably greenhouse vegetables until it is night all the time and then uv lamp/hydroponic a lot of vegetables. But you're going to want electricity. You can make a hydro dam if you design and meet requirements with just some turbines and pvc pipes. All of this will cost you more money than your government wellfare stipend though so for money you may want to open and staff a liquor store that sells lottery tickets for guaranteed revenue in alaska.

PFD is still in place. Then you get snap and medicaid as well for low income. You would preferably have PTSD from being yelled at in basic training and stack this with disability welfare from the military.
