I'm going to Yellowstone for the first time since I was a little boy. I want to take a souvenir so I had the idea of using a long metal grabber to pick up a stone at the bottom of one of the hotsprings from the boardwalk. Would the park jannies be okay with this or do I have to be sneaky about it? Also what kind of bag can I hide it in that won't get destroyed from the heat?

Yes they will have a problem with it. You are you not allowed to take anything from a national park, not that they would really care about a rock.
but what they would really care about is that you arent allowed to disturb the hot springs at all. They cite people for it all the time. I imagine any spring thats a big enough visitor draw to have a boardwalk has jannies watching.

Tighten up the screw where the two sides meet. There's always a little wiggle but yours is from a loose screw.

What are these things? I have a wall covered in them. They're like the cocoons of some small white/silver-and-black crawling insect, but I don't know the name. Do you guys know?

is hiking the long trail in 3x 1-week sections, south to north from early fall to late spring, a good way to experience the trail as a 9-5?

>>2826389
you can't climb into it cuz it'd sag and slip to the ground. you can exert more than your own bodyweight on a hammock, so i reinforce my becket hitches despite not being fat. i typically reserve the ridgeline for the tarp and use the thicker grey zing-it.

I am taking a road trip to Denver to visit friends in August. I will be spending a day in Iowa and a day in Nebraska. Is there anyone here that could recommend some natural areas in those states to go to?

The sum of the tension on both ends of the hammock is greater than your body weight, but individually they are less than your body weight. If climbers can use a prusik as an ascender, it should be able to hold a hammock on a ridgeline. And if a prusik slips, use a klemheist.

Iowa has some cool little towns worth visiting if you care about that (Pella, Amana, etc). For /out/ it's mostly in the NE. I'd avoid I-80 as well. It's boring as fuck, filled with construction and traffic and has a shitton of trucks. I found US-30 to be far more enjoyable, barely any traffic, speed limits are barely lower, more hilly and trees. Once you're on the western side of Iowa you have the Loess Hills that are /out/ worthy and stand out. Very cool part of the state, you can walk all along them if you really want to.

In Nebraska do yourself a favor and detour through NE-2 from Dunning to Alliance. Very cool ride, I-80 once again is the most dull drive and boring part of the state. If you can run north at Alliance to Crawford along US-20 you then have lots of /out/ options in the Nabraska NF which is pretty cool, especially when most people think Nebraska is just flat and farms (it's not lmao). US-20 is supposed to be good along it for stuff but i'd only done the very western end of it so idk how well the eastern part is.

Any suggestions for killer bee protection? I was thinking of one of these popup tents that we can jump into if theres not a car near enough. We'd be stuck until the sun goes down but thats better than the alternative.

Ill be out with more kids than I can carry and run with. In my part of the sonoran, on average 2 people a year die from killer bees. Its always people that cant get away fast enough, kids, elderly, rappellers, or people that think jumping in a pool will save them.

A long time ago I had a Smith & Wesson brand flashlight. It ran on three AAA batteries. It had multiple light colors like floodlight white, red, green, and I think blue. I thought it was going to be gimmick garbage but it ran forever despite repeated use. I ended up using it for /out/ and work frequently. I lost it when I moved at one point.

Yeah I had the best EDC knife I've ever owned that came from a stupid promotional kit from Snap-On. Left it on top of the spare in Yellowstone NP. I was devastated it wasn't there when I went back.
