Summertime fun edition

General thread for all living history, reenacting, actual LARP /out/ stuff.

So what are your plans for the summer? How has the record heat and projected increase affected your initial plans or equipment?

My British light infantry unit is getting ready to do a shakedown march/campout with out updated kit after we do our 4th of July programs. Find a line. The end goal is to have everyone kitted out and conditioned sufficiently for a long march and primitive bivouac using brush shelters for the 250th next year.

It's also partially to weed out all of the old fat guys in our unit who argue with research updated after the 1970's, and should have retired from military portrayals years ago.

Pic related but not mine.

I'm kinda pissed at myself for not taking more pictures of events I go to. My two favorite old timers. Ive bought guns and various camp stuff from them over the years.

It's a good folks, keep your ears open and listen to everything you're willing to share. The unfortunate truth of the hobby is that the cool elders all seem to die unexpectedly, and the farby douchebags live forever.

I was watching Last of the Mohicans last night and I noticed all the British soldiers had braided ponytails and I looked it up and that was military grooming standards of the time, long hair braided and tied with a black ribbon and ohmygosh it's so fucking handsome I can't even take it.

Also, sadly, this is not well represented by the re-enactment community because historical larpers tend not to be young men with ponytails, but rather fat old nerds and lesbians. :[

Any other movies I should watch to get my fix?

Not true. You exist.

>>2827555
It really depends on the events that you go to. Younger, fitter guys are all around, as our young women, but they tend to have higher standards and don't go to every shitty little reenacting event. They usually stick to living history with standards.

Youโ€™d have to send in a pro wrestler to beat the information out of me if I liked this sort of reenactment thing and here you are making a proud general out of it? Sheesh.

Guess you get points for admitting it, I guessโ€ฆ.

They are. And they have, over the years sold me tons of gear, clothing, and reference books, including a barely used wedge tent for $250 and my pistol for $150. They have been friends since the 1960's.

Thanks anon, yeah I had a look at that. Pretty good, they overdo it with the wigs though. I get that officers often wore them but not the regulars

>in HS, date a cute nerd girl
>all AP courses, watched Star Trek, theater, general dweeb shit
>she also had a massive rack and slim waist
>I'm a young punk and into alternative stuff, so we date
>she tells me she is in something called the SCA where they reenact medieval times
>shows me pics of her in a bodice with all the cleavage on display
>fuck yeah I'll go
>drive to upstate NY for a 3 day event
>find out it is mostly just people getting drunk and quoting Monty Python movies
>was not what I expected, but didn't mind going

Is every reenactment like that?
