Camping without a tent
I'm planning on going to England next week in hopes of walking the Southwestern coastal path.

My preparations were quite minimal: only packed a sleeping bag, and few other essentials.

I'm new to long-distance hiking so can someone with a little experience explain to me if I dun goofed? What are the cons of sleeping without a tent, mat and just a cheap sleeping bag. I've heard of the possibility of mosquito bites and whatnot, but I don't know how likely that is.

Thank you, anons.

i live in a similarily rainy climate but in the summer we have stretches where it is dry as Ben Shapiro's wife's vagina. then all you need are a wool blanket or two to wrap up in when it gets chilly overnight and youre all set

I wonder f this guy gave up after getting soaked in day one.

Never forget that schizo from Portland who flew to Orlando with plans on walking back and gave up after one night in a hobo camp. Truly a legend.

I remember the Portland guy. I even saw his videos, which we couldn’t link to because for some reason it’s against the rules. A lot of people thought it was a troll. He posted several pics from his hotel room in Orlando, complete with brand new Ozark Trails (Walmart store brand) gear.

He admitted to being overweight and having zero (0) hiking experience. He didn’t even make it out of Orlando. He saw some other tents (a fucking homeless camp) and thought that would be a good place to set up. He was approached by two homeless guys and pulled a knife on them (supposedly). The next day he got rained on, and took a cab to a hotel. He book a flight back home and that was it.

Several times a year we get these claims that someone is going on a big adventure. The South West Coast Path (not “Southwestern Coastal Path) is 630 miles/1,000 kilometers long. Generally it’s just a single post about some vague plan. Very rarely does anyone follow though.

I think there’s a strict 4Chan rule against linking to other social media. I dunno; it’s very vague.

It wont let me upload a photo of my setup because "muh 5mb" restrictions, but my setup is one of those German Army shelter halfs with guy ropes on one end point and the two corners either side of it. Lash the point rope to a tree and peg the 3 holes at the other end out so its taught, and you can either lash the other two ropes to trees or peg them out, your choice.
Then I throw my rollmat underneath and depending on the temperature either have some blankets or a sleeping bag, or a blanket in a sleeping bag to sleep in. Theres enough room for me, my gear, and my boots to comfortably fit. Only weather I have yet to try it in is a storm, though I feel I would be adjusting how the shelter half is set up, and I am tempted to add guys to the bottom holes too, just so as to have the option to make it more of a tent.
A modern tarp would be better desu, I just like the canvas larp, even if it is significantly heavier.
Im in the NW UK, where we get a lot of rain.

You missed the good weather by about a month. Take a tent and sleeping pad.
