Sleeping on an actual mattress is unbeatable, as is all the luxury items like chainsaws or fresh food.
I did a 5-day car camping trip a few years back and went from a backwoods campsite all by myself to a national park and stopped by town for real food then back to camp every day. Minimal setup required. Could sit in a proper chair, shoot guns, etc.
Backpacking is nice in other ways.

Before I put a seal between the bed and the tailgate, it got a little dusty. With the seal between the tailgate and bed, I haven't seen any dust getting in. It runs down one side of the back of the bed, along the bottom, then up the other side. The canopy itself has its own seal that has always worked well. The only problem I've had was it leaked when I first got it when it rained. I have a rack on the top of it. A tube of calk fixed that.

I've done tents and hammocks for years now. Getting tired of the setup. Moving forward, I think I'm just going to set up a cot in my truck's bed with a simple tarp over top if even needed. When you think about it, if you're driving anywhere and will be posted up near your car, why even bother setting up a tent or hammock? Keep those for when you're hiking a few miles out.

I currently have a Honda CR-V. I'm debating getting a Tacoma or similar truck. I can't decide, should I get a truck, if I should get a 5ft bed or a 6 ft bed? Even though I don't transport people, should I get double cab since I carry a lot of shit with me? I definitely want a cap, and originally, I was thinking of a 6ft bed so that I could sleep in it, but since I camp so little, maybe, a 5 ft bed and a tent would suffice. Additionally, I want to be able to haul a kayak. Will a 5 ft bed with a bed extender work well?

Car camping is for lazy people who want a compromise between the comforts of a sticks-n-bricks and the freedom of being out in nature. You don't pay to sleep, but you still get to sleep on a nice cushy bed that you can climb out of in the morning and be on your way in five minutes.
>>2835490
Other way around. There's no way you can fit a 6" mattress in a backpack, but it fits in a minivan just fine.
Anonymous No.2839154 [Report]
>>2836274
That's one thing I appreciate about car camping, that it can potentially be a very comfortable bed but most of the year you're not going to oversleep because it heats up pretty quick after sunrise.
When I used to do solo cross-country road trips, there was something so comfy about stopping at a gas station that evening for a sandwich and a six-pack, then finding a rough Forest Service or BLM road to drive a few miles down and park for the night.
Anonymous No.2839306 [Report]
When I road trip alone, I either rent a 4 door pickup truck, or a minivan and sleep inside.
With a car you can sleep in comfort anywhere, drive, pull over, sleep, wake up, piss out the door, and leave.

Namadgi National Park. It's lovely when the weather is nice, but in the mountains even during summer it gets feckin cold and blustery at night. 12 of hours of rain creates lots of concerns. They actually have a forced park closure in bad weather so I was supposed to have left in the afternoon but I stayed all night. The roads were almost entirely washed out but luckily in Falkor I was able to get out in the morning

I tried one of those once and returned it. Feels like a gimmick: severely limits where you can put your tent, adds additional setup and breakdown time to attach it to your car, and doesn’t really add anything since you’ve either got to be set up to sleep in the car or sleep in the tent.
I’ve got a rooftop tent which is pretty comfortable and you can set it up quickly, but I used to do a lot of tent camping before I had it.

My gf squirts an attrocious amount, literally a stream, until the walls and roof are dripping squirt. The blankets are more like sponges, just to keep from sleeping in literal puddles. On a cold morning, the windows are frosted in condensed pussy juice and it's like sleeping in an eskimo womb. Kinds cozy inder the damp blankets. We've literally had icicles of frozen dripping squirt hanging from the roof like stelagmites. Have you ever eaten an icicle of frozen pussy juice in the morning? I got a 7th gen Hilux double cab. Means even if the tailgate is down the bed is only about 5'7" or 1.7m so I gotta keep it open when sleeping.
So when it might be raining I cover everything with a tent. I also use the tent when I camp in places where other people might be so I can shit in peace in the morning.

these must be designed by someone who think the point is to have your camp attatched to your car and thats not the case for most of us who use various car camping methods, its quick and easy set up/down in shit weather and conditions, you arrive in the evening leave in the morning. a roof top tent you are tucked in withing 3 minutes if you have to and you dont have to care about ground contitions. a van or truck topper even faster. ground tent meh needs better ground but can be done in less than 10 min, down to 5. thoose are "fuck this weather im bunkin in no mather what" conditions. no way you can do that with this setup unless your car is so big you can sleep without setting it up and then one may ask; why bring it in the first place?

I would like to take a medium/large van, picrel, and deck it out as a small house. 1.5 width bed, big enough for 2 medium people. Decent sized stove the sort you would see in a house. Simple gas kitchen area, sink big enough for washing hair/ass using gravity-fed water, simple electronics linked to a good sized "portable power station" which recharges from driving around.

Shouldn't be too hard to do even for a total amateur what with the amount of guides and videos out there. It would have to be made to be liveable in a cold UK climate so I'll overinvest in insulation at the beginning stages.

Really, from what I can see, the only tough part is toileting. I could keep a mobile camping shitter around for if I've got a woman in, but it would seem that shitting in the trees would be the day to day thing. I can have showers 3-4 times per week at the gym, clothes washed at the launderette if necessary,

I'm not talking about a lifestyle, just practicality. Can work anywhere, can go to different places whenever. Can manage the many overgrown woodlands by taking down trees that are crowding each other out and make use of the wood. Nobody will even notice them gone and yet the woodlands will be healthier - win win. 2 cubic meters of maple firewood is worth half a week's good earnings, that's 2 small trees, and those choked little woodlands are everywhere.

Just by making a crude dwelling look decent enough I could take my camping to the extra next level don't you think? I'm not talking about making a youtube channel.
