>you will never get to explore the coast redwoods or the temperate rainforests of North America pre-logging
How do I cope with this thought?

Go to Humboldt Redwood state park and enjoy 17,000 acres of old growth redwoods.

Trumps logging it bro. It’ll be clear cut in no time and the lumber executives will have a few extra mil laying around.

did they really cut down massive trees while wearing three piece suits back in the day?

Take comfort in the knowledge that you missed out on a million-fold more legendary things than cutting down some fucking trees.

Enjoy the trees that are still with us. Do your best to reuse old growth wood from older buildings and fences.

Plant new ones, regardless of where you live. Introduce them to Europe and Asia, they are surprisingly hardy, and were actually native there around the last Ice Age. Don't let them go extinct.

back then everything was slower. if they wanted to check what time it is, they had to stop, pull out clock, open the lid, remember they forgot to spin the inner mechanism serving as battery, close the lid, put away the clock and then had sex with local social worker. at home when wife demanded to know why is he late, he simply said he forgot to strung the clock.

first they cut down the tree, then they went home, paid fotographer and scheduled a meeting, then next day put on their best suits, probably also got new haircuts and trimmed beards and finally arrived to get the photo done.

nowadays we are used to take selfied with a flick of a finger, back then it was probably a week long project to schedule it all up properly.

I remember watching a doc on them, apparently they absolutely fucking thrive in the UK.
We won't be around for those forests, but our children will

Old growth forests are a cohesive living organism. Regrowth just isn't the same. It's a bunch of individual trees all competing with each other. Hey, kinda like the changes in American society, from tribal existence in a mystical meaningful landscape to stunted individuals competing for resources in a denuded land.
