He tried to cross at a wide point too. I'm wondering if he was frantically panicked because he was lost or if he had mild hypothermia already. It's unusual to pick a wide point to attempt a crossing.

Isn't it common knowledge to cross at the widest point possible? He knew what he was doing but when you're alone one little slip is all it takes. It's tragic but part of being /out/, nothing is risk free. You can do everything right and still die and you're fooling yourself if you think otherwise.

Yes, crossing a stream at the widest point is common knowledge among people who spend time in the outdoors. This necessarily excludes most people who post here.

>American goes to Norway to hike, bad things happen.
>Norwegian goes to Canada to hike, bad things happen.
Now we need a Canadian to go to the US to hike to complete the cycle.

You mean like the guy that tried to do it and died as a result?
>you're fumbling for a response now

He didn’t die because he crossed at the widest point of the stream and he didn’t post here.
Try again.

In my opinion he did the right thing staying put. The weather was terrible and challenging even for people looking for him. He likely couldve gotten lost or injured himself by trying to move. He was at a good, open and obvious spot for search and rescue to find him. Only risk he took was banking on his wife reporting him missing, but thats low risk in this scenario.
