What's the point of climbing a mountain that's lower but more deadly than Everest?
It seems like a higher risk, lower reward game. I know that more elevation doesn't always equal more fun but I don't think the likehood of avalanches equals fun either. I don't think any kind of fun is worth almost 30% kill rate. And if you just wanna kill yourself in mountains, you can try rock climbing with no rope or simply hiking in winter in swimsuit.

Not everyone is looking for external validation. Some people do it to challenge themselves. That the success rate is so low is part of the challenge and appeal.

you're on 4chan. A website full of people who cannot do something to satisfy themselves there is always an ulterior motive. And that motive is usually to get laid.

It's worthwhile to go outside and walk on a flat surface in nature, and this will still be more than you do.

Mount Everest is a tourist attraction. It's no longer seen as a sign of elitism and instead one of being rich. K2 is still much more under developed and requires actual skill making it a lot less traveled and more elite to finish.

Want to impress the world, climb a mountain that's never been summited like Kailash.

For me sometimes my motivation is to get laid and sometimes it's just to enjoy a different kind of experience. There is almost nothing more enjoyable to me than hiking. That being said I've never even done a 14er before, and of course I would like to. But the dick waving about this stuff is pointless.

>what's the point of...?
You're right, what's the point of doing anything
With that, why do nothing

Working out 'what is the point of this' at all times is part of the entire point of mountaineering. You can watch videos of Colin Haley where he literally realises at some specific point/situation 'I don't want to rope solo this horrible shit in winter any more, I just don't have the heart for it. I'm now going to bail before my chance of death approaches 35% fuck I hope I get down tataaa chaps.....'
Then he goes back next week when the weather is a bit better or he feels he can be faster. The skill is also deciding when REALLY to just go home and never do that shit again.
