ROGAN USA
Thoughts on this brand? I'm getting the Recon model as a jack-of-all-trades outdoor knife (I'm forcing a patina on it).

This looks like something I could make with an angle grinder in my garage

Yes I get it, however, this is not something that I have the tools of skills to make myself. We're talking investment in a grinder plus tools, sourcing material, shaping and heat treatment. It comes with a kydex sheath with clip attachment. What I want is a simple do-it blade, not an SRK where the rubber handle will loosen up, or a tacticool plastic knife, or wooden handles that'll come loose or rot.

Single piece of steel with paracord wrapping, chisel grind and a kydex sheath. Decent, easy to care for, fail-proof.

Also uncomfortable to use ranging to agony for extended periods. Paracord handles suck balls.

Holy fuck it's a chisel. Yes you could make this in your garage with minimal tools. This 1095 blank is $10. Cut the shit out with an angle grinder then belt sand the chissel side. Then temper it in a toaster oven. Then sharpen it.

Depends on the geometry and if it may be difficult for shitty tools

Word!
I bought an ESEE Izula and thought the Paracord handle would be alright. Nope, it was for shit, and I am loath to count out how much time I spent watching Indians on Youtube teach me macramé to see if a different wrap would be better.
Wrapping style had nothing to do with it and the handle was still for shit, so I found a pair of third-party scales on Etsy, which actually made it usable, and only two months after the knife came in the mail was it usable.

Did you at least drill holes and add some dowels for a handle for it?
Anonymous No.2840515 [Report] >>2840557
paracord handles suck no matter what you do to it, it's just supermarket tacticool garbage

But they are so much cheaper, and with a higher profit margin, than fitted scales. All the seller needs to do is convince you that a couple of meters os "survival cord" is essential to saving your life on a knife that sits in your closet 365 x 2 - 1 days straight. You are honestly better off with duct tape around your B8c lighter.

are there some styles of wrap that are less prone to coming off vs more prone like the straight wrap in op

i thought it was an aesthetic borrowed from traditional things that used twine to wrap around the grabby part but they also sealed the whole thing down

Literally cut a block of wood, glue it to thr knife, drill 2-3 holes through the block and tang, beat in some metal dowells, then cut it and belt sand it to match the shape of the tang and your hand. Then oil it. Wah lah

Now you need either a propane torch or a bunch of charcoal and a leaf blower.

$100 for 19th century basic bitch 1075? Cold Steel's SK85 and Varustruleka's 80CrV2 knives are less expensive and better steel.

Nah.

Just make a handle from almost any piece of wood. I made a handle for a putty knife I found on the side of the road from a scrap piece of furring strip. I cut it using a cheap hacksaw then used a piece of brass tube from the hardware store and some 5 minute epoxy to hold it together. I've had it for years now
