its easy to say that just because its a meadow but the bear was supposedly on a carcass and even from your pic you can see a little draw right in front and you could easily walk right up on it if the bear was bedded down in the draw or in the sage. Almost every single griz attack is a case of surprising a bear at close range.

the dude was also hiking alone in an area with high bear traffic...shoulda been making noise.

Bear spray is banned in Jew York, but thankfully we only have black bears, I might get a hunting license next year and kill some of those niggers, I hear they basically hand out tags for free since no one hunts them, at least in New Jersey they don't. Black bears eat people alive. I think it was in new mexico last year this guy stepped onto his back porch and the bear attacked him. His neighbor heard screams and killed it but the guy succumbed to his injuries.

how so? Bear attacks happen. Black bears are skittish but will attack when hungry or cubs are threatened.
When i was in colorado a group of campers fought off a black bear with sticks after it dragged a kid out of his tent by his head.

People are encroaching more and more on their territory. If i went swimming in the ocean, i wouldn't find it bizarre if a shark bit my leg off, though it doesn't happen often. I'm in their territory and sometimes they do that shit. Though it's kinda rare.
