That's a meme and varies heavily between regions as well. People here in the PNW and also in the upper Midwest are more likely than not to have unbroken European bloodlines, many of them Scandinavian or Germanic. I'm entirely Germanic+Slav myself. It's a different story in the South and Southeast where people's ancestors came to America a lot earlier and had more opportunity to mix.

Very few American Indians worked with metal and zero of them have ever worked iron. Well, here in the Pacific North West Indians would take washed up iron from Japanese shipwrecks and repurpose them but they completely lacked the ability to smelt iron, or truly work it. American Indians were Chalcolithic at the best of times, not much better than Ötzi. Sure, stone age isn't entirely accurate for all Indians but it sure isn't far off. I remember taking a "Native American Agriculture" class and it was hilarious seeing the cope in the curriculum about how Indians were actually super advanced. This is true, if you compare them to stone age people, I guess. The sad truth is that people in Varna ca. 4500 BC were as advanced as the majority of Precolombian cultures at time of contact with Europeans.
