In Russia people build these small cabins in the woods without any permits. It's not really illegal but it's not legal also but the forest service don't really mind even though they have all rights to destroy them. It's kind of a grey area when it comes to law about them. And people use fallen trees to make logs for it( can't cut wood in Russia without permission). It's not a private property and anyone can stay in them when they want or need to spend the night of they are too tired to get home. They have wood burning stoves and can be a real life saver when it's cold, you can find some dry food and firewood inside left from the previous visitor and they expect you to do the same if possible for the next guy that comes there. Nothing fancy and not all of them are in their best shape but it's much better than a tent. Not sure about other countries but it's a big NO NO in the west. Also most of them are miles deep into the woods so the local bums can't get there easily and make a mess. Just thought I'd share it.

In America the rangers here would have a field day ripping these down and Encon would have you prosecuted for all kinds of environmental laws. Jealous of our “freedom”?

Yeah it's kinda crappy over here with all the laws and strict rules. It's not like you want to build a house on someone's property or government property. We are talking a basic shelter that's not even occupied most of the time here.

where I live in canada, its generally not possible to construct a new structure. But there are many still existing camps that are legal and run on a similar system. I think in reality what makes these not work is modern societies general greed as if you were to publicly post the locations of the ones where I am they would be destroyed in short order so its a its you know you know thing.
