I've hiked every 14er. Easier than most routes in the whites. Switchback galore, you can literally ride a fucking bike up Elbert.

If you can get away from crowds yes. Luckily foliage is shit this year so it's not been too bad. The coziest place in the whites is actually across the border in Grafton Notch.
