If you're being serious, the objection to having a generator isn't so much that you're being inauthentic to experiencing the outdoors as it is due to noise and exhaust fumes being objectionable to others in the area. Same with sleeping in a tricked out van versus running the van's engine all night. Some people will look down on you for being in a metal box with the creature comforts of a house, but almost everyone will object to you running the petro engine all night.
