is it possible to do simple navigation (north, south, east and west) via looking at stars? if so what is a good guide to it?
t. only goes outdoors to pick berries and afraid to get lost in the forest

No dude it can't be done, nobody has ever navigated by the stars. They move too much and are impossible to predict. Making a star chart or designating some star as the north star is too much.

I know skids and larpers think that a sextant is the end all be all tool for navigation, because none of you have ever actually used one. Sextants work best on the open ocean. I have used them. Repeatedly. I have used map and compass. I have used live satellite feed. I have used GPS. A simple phone works best for most retards navigational needs.

If you can find Orion, Taurus, the seven sisters or Cassiopeia then you can find the general direction of the North Star.
