Yes but I'm pretty sure those are bald faced hornets there is no honey in there.

That's a paper wasp nest, not a bee hive. Bees don't build nests like that. You probably should have spent less time playing video games and more time paying attention in school.

I fondly remember one summer when I was about 8 we had one of those giant wasp nests dangling from a tree right next to the house, and my dad lifted a jug of gasoline up in the air, hanging on a long tree limb, and he meticulously poured gas over the nest and soaked it. the wasps of course went fucking mental and formed a visible cloud around the nest. the lowered the limb, removed the jug of gas, replaced it with a burning rag, and raised the fire to the nest and it fucking erupted like a fireball. we all watched like a thousand wasps burn to a crisp and fall to the ground, I remember as a little kid being in awe at how many wasps were in that nest. anyway, the whole thing burned and that was the end of that.

decades later I was camping with friends in the back acres and took a bunch of photos that night, and only after reviewing the photos did I see there was a (probably defunct) wasp nest in the trees above us the whole time.

There were some wild bees in a rock crevice on a trail near my house. Their honey combs looked like stalactites and you could smell the honey. They're not there this year.

wtf school did you go to where they had a lesson on paper wasp vs bee nestbuilding?

yellowjackets have gotten me a couple of times mowing the lawn. A paper wasp got me when I didn't realize it had a nest under my railing. Now every spring I go hunting around my property killing any wasp or yellowjacket I find.
