Just got a 420-800mm f/8.3 vivitar lens for moon photography, any tips and tricks on getting good pictures and even in post processing?

My camera is an 800D/Rebel T7i and I'm using a tripod, using darktable to edit my photos.

Pic is the moon yesterday with aformentioned lens just to test it out, will be giving it a proper shot next full moon.

Remember: the full moon is an object in direct sunlight, shoot accordingly

If you zoom in far enough you can see the pixels on the screen-dome that covers the flat earth

No, no stacking. Single exposure RAW processed in Adobe Lightroom. Pretty basic, straightforward processing like crop and levels.

Just have to take about 30 or more exposures to get a really clear capture because of atmospheric distortion. Once you get a a clear shot, though, it pretty much comes out of the camera 80% of the way there assuming you've gotten your exposure dialed in.

800mm + 2x teleconverter, shot in 1.5x DX mode is about a 2,400mm equivalent focal length (which is about what you're seeing here).

Also, consider that you lose a lot of dynamism and detail as the moon grows full since everything is then lit straight-on and the image will appear "flat". Crescents or half-moons really add detail to the craters from indirect lighting and shadows.

Huge difference in camera and lens, but still a pretty good result in my eyes. But I found it needed a decent bit of postprocessing, removed all color from it to stop any fringing(cheap lens comes at a cost) and some other minor tweaks
