Do you ever use the formula for depth of field when you need to take a photo?

Nobody is autistic enough to do that.
At most do the calcs at home once or twice to get a rough theory down, then just use your fucking camera.

it's super cool in the studio, but last time I did it was years ago.
However, it's also been years since I last used a 4x5 chamber which made going through the hoops worthwhile.

I mean, the scales are literally written on the lens, if you're using manuals.

The real use of the formula is if you want to know what focal length and aperture you need to obtain a DoF of Xmm I find
When you want to make sure you aren't going to overshoot, say, the front of the face of a subject, or a bowl on a table.

Only when I shoot my full frame Nikon. If i'm on ASPC or MFT then I can trust the camera to get focus.

I've posted in a bunch of the more general photo threads. I've gotten some actual compliments once I changed the exif data to say it was from a z6iii lmao. If you browse the board you've seen my pictures. You just probably didn't know you were enjoying a photo from an MFT camera. It doesn't really matter anyways. Nobody can pick the MFT photos from the full frame ones in a blind test.

No one does, but you should understand intuitively what's on top of the ratio, what's on bottom, and what gets squared.

Shot feasibility firstly and then it is helpful to know where your infinity focus is. The app photopils calculates everything based on your sensor size, Focal length and distance. It does a lot more stuffs as well.

It's too late you have liked an MFT and a couple fuji photos thinking it was actually validating your gear choice. The only option left is to just enjoy a good photo and not sweat the rest.

I think most people understand that composition and lighting are more important than camera choice in almost all situations.
With lesser cameras there is potential lost. Maybe your mft shot is a 6, but with less flat colors and lower diffraction induced softness it would have been a 6.3 or 6.5.

Jokes on you I think everything on this board is shit (incl. my own stuff) except for some rare burtgurm or fe2fucker threads etc. Hell, even Sugar has had some good stuff over the years.
Your stuff is almost certainly shit. You must think the same to be avoiding posting something here in this thread.

Going from mft to FF brings a 6/10 up to a 9/10

Once the GFX100S reaches a /p/ friendly pricepoint (<$2000) we're gonna see some serious shit

I think this will probably end up being my setup. MFT camera for when size and weather resistance matter. Medium format for when I am willing to lug around a heavy setup or studio work. Seems like fullframe is going to be the new ASPC. Kind of a compromise between worlds.

This is true. Nikons internal WR standards are much better than IP ratings. The ZF has a very complicated external design with lots of ingress points, but has still survived being used in hurricane conditions for multiple people. I donโ€™t think you can do better for both quality weather sealing and assurance of constant improvement than nikon

Sony and canon have been unreliable and olympus is totally dead since they fell for the insufficient sensor size meme
