I wanna make a photobook. I have 50-60 snaps of cars I've been getting in Bratislava for the last few years. I've been trying to do it with a photoshop doc with a billion layers which I will eventually export to a pdf for printing but is there a better way to do it?

Same here, I was thinking about asking a designer friend to help me out. Are you doing everything by yourself?
Hardcover? Paperback cover? What kind of layout did you have in mind?

i wanted to make some "demo" copies and see if i can find some publisher in central europe or maybe further afield who'd be interested in doing a hq glossy hardcover or something. To start i am thinking an a4 fold thing of like 25 sheets making 100 pages. might make that lower to simplify. But so far it's all me.

I mean this is the type of design I often see in more modern photo books.

I did some remotely similar stuff (one poster and a couple of book covers) in Inkscape; in Adobe land that would be Illustrator I guess.

you finding a car that caught your interest and taking a snapshot doesn't sound like a strong enough idea for a photobook on it's own. is there a trend you noticed about your city that's unique to here? do you know any janky cars owhers who are interesting people to interview? why the fuck would anyone want read a book that's a dry diary of a random ass dude? if i were a historian in 10 000 years with no idea on what car looked like and had no other data sources this would be a godsent but otherwise why would anyone care?

look through at least one (1) published photobook to have a reference on what they look like, it will help you massively

another option is adobe indesign
if you insist on using photoshop make spreads layout on artboards. it will kill you with temp files size and you'll look for alternative soon enough.

no hate if this isn't a troll but the font Is dog shit. go and download some photo books you like and copy the elements design and layout they have. the off white and font is horrific.

Adobe indesign is book markup software but there are online editors and other solutions.

yah as others have stated the photos aren't strong enough on their own just snapshots and I'm not getting a theme or any connection between the photos.

Either a white bg with relatively large margins and a single picture in the center on each page, or edge-to-edge printing on a small page size with tight crops. This design shit is neither here nor there.
The current cover design is good.
Don't put any extra text or gimmicks in there.

this is bad 90% of the photo is asphalt, other cars and delapidated buildings that noone cares about, just crop it

if you really need to do some kind of design/editing concept you have to keep it CONSISTENT i.e. the same style on every picture. Maybe look at some drift/phonk stuff for inspiration
