How does it know how to meter the scene? For my regular point and shoot I'll aim at shadow or light area to change the look and lock in focus. How does this thing do that? I want the most basic point and shoot possible and I'm looking at this and the 28mm version.

The xa doesnโ€™t have any kind of exposure lock feature so you would have to do it manually by pointing at what you want to expose for and adjust using iso speed. Not really ideal if you want a true basic snappy point and shit.

these vameras were designed by the japanese, they knew how to do it. i have some knowledge on the topic. you don't need all these fancy know and wheels... oyu just point and it works. its the power of analog photography as opposed to DIGITAL photography (which comes from the devil really). you just point and click (unironically this is where the term comes from) - the camera does the rest. real japanse quality, americans could never. yup

Haven't used an XA specifically but I have used their SLRs from the same time period and they do really nail exposure. It was one of their main selling points.

The XA meters through the little transparent window above the lens. The user has minimal control of metering. Sometimes I will change the ISO dial below the lens to force an exposure correction but they honestly do a quite decent job on their own. When I picked up my XA (manual focus original) I ran a roll.of slide film through it to test the meter and it came out perfect. Picrel was on that test roll of Kodak E100

I have a xa and you can fuck with the film speed setting if you want. They are pretty easy to sunny 16 and focus with your feet.

what do you mean. Some analog just have built in light meters. It's that simple. What is your question.

Sorry I'm retarded. Let's say I was taking this photo. How does it choose what to meter for? With my point and shoot I'll could aim at the shadow or aim at the sun and lock exposure for different results.
