If you can't back up anymore I would suggest you actually get closer and isolate a subject even more. Every focal length just requires you to get used to it. It's not necessarily that you NEED a 50mm

As far as color goes, I tend to overproduce. I rarely ever do B&W photos but I did for the ones in the OP as a practice in caring less about color.

Appalachia is often misrepresented that way. Yes, Appalachia is very wooded, but there are, in fact, many urban centers in Appalachia. This one is in eastern Kentucky, in the Appalachian Rust Belt. Lots of factory work that shut down with the rest of the deindustrialization wave. Then, drugs started flooding the area. It's a weird place.

It's bad, absolute snapshit framing almost no composition or unifying visual theme in 90% of these whatsoever

what separates pretentious "i have an idea - its a theme, bro" snapshits that fall flat from better minimalist photography ie: lewis baltz is that rhythm, that consistency, an overarching intent. there's no visual motif so there's nothing to pull a message from.

these could have been taken anywhere in the northern part of the us I feel like
