Is it just me or does this photo show some strange colours? For me the handle part looks green while the edges have slight magenta cast. This thing is chrome-plated so it should not have such colours. What could cause this?

depending on if you are in front of peak focus or behind it will turn magenta or green. Your focus point is right between the plane of the safety razor edge and the handle
Stopping down would probably have fixed the issue unless it is an 80s budget zoom tier bad lens. This is caused by either a bad photographer or inexcusably bad gear.
