How come we don't have a /p/ magazine/photobook or something? Every month we could give a theme and maybe people vote on what gets in, then we can publish it as a pdf for all /p/ users
I've yet to properly work out the logistics but that's what this thread is for

Back in the old days (not the good days because /b/ was never good), there were a few /p/ photo books put together. This is back when we had resident trip tags basically running the place, as opposed to now where it’s just like sugar being a dirty old gearfag and the occasional Burt thread. Was the photography better? Eh, hard to say, snapshot central always and forever, but some good stuff popped up here and there.

Because I'm not interested in your photography. I'm interested in your point of view on aesthetics, on technique, tips&tricks, gear discussions etc. But not in your work.

I like my own work and gift some large prints to friends and family e.g. after we've been on a trip together.

But I'm not interested in the prints that you guys gift (or send digitally) to the people in your lives. Also 4channers generally are pathetic losers irl.

Nobody is interested in anyones photography except for money launderers and jews

Photography has been an aborted art since the very beginning. It was a novelty until the 70s and since then it's been masturbatory with some rabbi rambling about intersectional representations, climate change, war, and the human-"something" to try and explain why paying $40,000 for a photo of a red wall has no connection to money laundering. The only real significance of any photo is purely personal and historical. Sometimes it's corny interior decor but it's about as art as the live laugh love sticker.

Actually, you first learn that photography is fundamentally incapable of being fine art in college. And also that pretending it is, is nothing more than a form of class signaling, which is why "photographers" get so salty when you point that their "art" is just expensively preserved snapshots.

I have a copy of the first one and I believe I was in every /p/hotobook that was printed, I know I was in the first one for sure, it's been a while.

Those WERE the days, there's a lot of you that weren't here for the PhotoshopR threads where he actually taught you shit. Alex Burke had a different thread up every couple of weeks that talked about Photoshop layering and how he processed his slide scans. People learned shit here and applied it. Even I learned a few things.

Then I had the challenge threads, which got trolled, then another anon did the challenge threads and wasn't trolled. I had a continuous Sugar Thread up for like 3 years. It's not just rose-tinted glasses, /p/ used to actually be better. I remember looking forward to LAiN's red sunset threads and Bassackwards drunk ramblings, I miss him, I know he's probably dead but wherever he is I hope he is at peace.

I think the beginning of the end was when the faggot jannies slapped PhotoshopR on the pp I can't remember why but it was something dumb. That ended his stream of knowledge and he just kind of fucked off. And one by one people just started leaving, some I'm sure found girlfriends and started families and photography had to vie for a portion of their time, most of us grew old and life got busy.

Now it's just trolling, dumb ass memes and shitty gear threads I genuinely don't know why I've stayed around.

Maybe it's my time to finally go.

The internet in general became shitty somewhere around 2016, too many people, too many corporations, too many tryhards taking moderating too seriously. I wasn't here on /p/ during that time but I've seen other communities go through the same thing, the closest thing there is to that vibe is small Discord servers I guess.

It's not just /p/ I think since COVID there was been a general apathetic outlook toward life specifically by younger people. Like why even try anymore.

COVID was a huge paradigm shift in everything, culture, politics, online life, it all changed. /p/ changed before all of this but I think that was the nail in the coffin, everyone moved on to bigger and better and left this place, people don't network and connect to do shit anymore they all just sit in front of their phones all day looking at brain rot and never make an effort to live life anymore.

Like even when I was in Utah last year doing my landscape work people were glued to their phones I could see it in their cars and in tour buses and stuff, especially the Americans they were just sucked into their phones. I don't know anymore, it can't be like this forever. Not everything is enshittified.

I tend to agree here with this as well, the Internet started being very heavily monetized by corporate and political interests around this time. It wasn't a place anymore, it was a thing that followed you everywhere and invaded every aspect of your life.

I also think the social media takeover is partially to blame, lots of clout chasing and people doing shit for the 'gram and no longer answering a higher calling of life and self-fulfillment. I did the American Traveling Camera for /p/ not because internet points but I wanted to give something back to the community I learned so much from.

M8 I see this everywhere in Australia too. The old people stopped giving a fuck and the youngest never did. Sometimes I find these rare middle-aged people that actually try and experience life properly but the age gap is too much to make proper friends with them. I go to these events, or bushwalking, or to the races, and everyone is just vlogging and snapshitting for their shitty instagram or twitter. Everyone wants to be internet famous, and for what?

The only board I frequent that hasn't dropped massively in quality is /o/, which I understand is probably one of the most resilient topics.
>>4439885
Trying. I'm not great by any means, but at least I'm taking photos and giving it a go.

On a lighter note, I've been enjoying the anon doing historical photographer threads. I'd like to see more threads dedicated to post-processing, practicing compositions, or even bring back the roll thread. Maybe narrow that last one down so instead of having 100 topics, we rotate 5 or 10 more broad ones to more easily drive engagement.

Gear is easy to engage in conversation with because it takes so little effort. Ergo, the engagement ratios will not change without a rule in place that is actually enforced by the jannies. Afaik we only have one and I genuinely don't know if they do anything outside of ban the most egregious fuckwits.
I'd love a rule enstating that gear discussion must stay in a pinned gear thread, but it'll never happen because it wouldn't actually increase the quality of engagement, it would just half the amount of it.

A specific theme might cut down on the engagement a bit much. I'd rather the first go at this be just what you think your nicest photo is or something you're proud of etc.
I know for a fact that if the theme is street, I'm basically fucked, but plenty of anons only do that. It might mean the photobook is less cohesive than intended but I'd rather get something on the table than have the project shelved due to low interest.

I had similar issues when I used to admin for my university's drama club. Everyone wanted to do something niche they were interested in and suddenly very few memebers gave a fuck about the project at hand. The other admins and I had to encourage more generic, shorter things that were less impressive, but we started putting out actual content which increased engagement and membership. Go figure.

A concept could be fun and include a lot of various styles of photography.

Something simple like "blue" or "sphere" or "darkness" It allows for a lot of interesting and unique interpretations while creating at least some cohesion between all the pictures.
