it might be but my autistic brain simply can't let go. for example im in the process of buying my first 1000+ dollarinho camera, and was settling for one until i read how theres another one which is actually better yada yada, and now even though the first one would be plenty good for me, i cant accept settling for less. neverending cycle of shit

Trying to get the best value product is not unique to photography. Not too dissimillar to buying a car where a lot of people don't give the slightest fuck and buy a Corolla, and others are tossing up between different styles of cup holder because they know they'll be using it for 5+ years.

Most of it here is flat out lies

Normal people buy a7iii, a7c
Richies and spec spergs buy z5ii, a7iv, r6ii, a7cii
Money wasting hipsters with big egos and little taste buy digital fake film cameras
Weird alt right contrarians who secretly support legalizing bestiality buy dslrs
People who dont know how to win at facebook marketplace or have been ruined by /p/ brand wars buy canon r8/rp

Or rent a gfx100 or hasselblad x2d for a few days, or if you want to waste a lot of money rent a 200MP phase one.

Even if you can buy a whole ass camera and Sheet film with the same money renting costs it is too much of a commitment for most people to actually capture and extract the full gigapixel you can get from sheet film. They don't even have IBIS for crying out loud.

anything over 1600iso and a 5mp ccd is sperg.

Tripods and large camera filter all the bitches you don't want to have in a long term relationship.

Large cameras on tripods = wife material
small "stylish" cameras = pump and dump

Even though putin fined them bigtime for extremist LGBTQ propaganda meant to lower birthrate and spread sickness, they still make the best computer.

Linux is half baked, has too much fragmentation, and no support for standard professional programs outside of software development. You can sadly not be a good digital photographer with linux. Forget darktable, and rawtherapee, the photos will look like shit and you can barely do anything. Gimp? Worse than pirated photoshop in WINE. Even the display server has 3 options, 1 from 1970 and 2 that are broken.
Windows is buggy and hard to take control back from microsoft. When W10 IOT LTSB is dead so will windows. Capture one runs very slowly and sometimes crashes.

Macs sell you a computer running real UNIX, and once you disable SIP you can rip out any components you want and disable all of the tracking and remote control. SIP is useless if you don't run random closed source programs and fall for "social engineering attacks" ("sar install virus.exe to receive bitcoin -raj"). Capture one runs faster on mac, photoshop runs faster on mac, due to superior UNIX architecture. is good. Also firewire adapters if you ever try old medium format.

8x10 is a meme
Poor choice of films, you are forced to use Foma shit. Lenses with such a large image circle are mostly very old and poor design with poor MTF characteristics so the film itself will outresolve the lens by far.
4x5 is golden standard for large photography
much larger choice of films
much larger choice of high quality lenses
high quality 4x5 film stock grain is so fine that 8x10 will never be needed in reality

This is actually sort of true. The only thing 8x10 has over 4x5 is contact printing, really. 8x10 contact prints have a finer look than enlarged 4x5, but it's not by that much.
Ilford makes delta 100 and fp4+ in 8x10 and kodak still has a couple color and b&w films in 8x10. I think you can even get some fujifilm 8x10 if you're willing to pay like 20-35 dollars a sheet for them...

The mtf chart shit is crazy silly tho. You would need to print enormous prints to notice any difference. Even my 1850s rapid rectilinear lens perform extremely well and produces lovely looking contact prints.

You are aware that your cope only serves as my amusement, right?
I enjoy the workflow of contact printing better than enlarging. I have a leitz focomat v35 that I have made amazing looking prints with and a beseler 45v-xl with color head that I am going to build a RA-4 capable darkroom around.

It is all cope from the vocal minority. I can't really send people my contact prints to actually see what all the fuss is about.

The scans of an 8x10 are nearly 1GB and those barely do them any justice when compared with a good contact print...

Enjoying life for yourself: Get a sony a7c/a7cii or a7iii/a7iv, a smallish prime or two, and a zoom to cover the lenses you'd rarely use

Its really a shame nikon hasn't fixed the fucking focus algo on the z6ii, or they could have their a7iii moment a few years late

Even a slight improvement+open aperture focusing would allow it to equal or beat the equivalent snoy

Do you NEED 120 and 0.5x macro?

if you know what type of focus lengths you like maybe you should get a prime instead. I have the 24-70 just because I came from a crop sensor and I wanted to get comfortable with shit wider than 70.

you could get the 40mm and 85mm for the same price

It's not just gear that's a meme, it's /p/. This board is trash, like the rest of the boards. It hasn't been a photography board for 7 years now, just another imageboard.
