What the hell is lomography? Trying to get an actual answer is impossible, I'm met with "dude it's like an experience vibes bro" bullshit

Gas station weed. It's cheap and you get a different, albeit bad experience every time

Embracing the shittiness in shitty, cheap, old, funky, (more of those boxes you can check off the better,) cameras. Especially with one of Lomography's questionably overpriced shitty, funky cameras.

They actually make some cool shit like the spinner 360 and that website where you can lookup pictures by what film was used.
Unfortunately it is overwhelmingly low quality.

perhaps the vocabulary is retarded, but this is essentially all it is. The idea of intentionally producing an imperfect, flawed image, using either cheap and faulty or increasingly just old gear, and packaging it as an aesthetic. Think light leaks, cololur shifts, soft lenses, missed focus, that kind of thing. It's also a company that conveniently sells and markets this packaged aesthetic to you.

LOMO is not exactly the same thing as Lomography.
Originally, LOMO (Russian: Лeнингpaдcкoe Oптикo-Meхaничecкoe Oбъeдинeниe, romanized: Leningradskoye Optiko-Mekhanicheskoye Obyedinenie, lit.'Leningrad Optical Mechanical Association') was a USSR company that used to actually make professional cameras alongside plastic toys. They weren't good but they did at least try to make non-toy devices.

In the 90s there was a company/group that was basically a fanclub for their toy cameras in Germany, which is where the name "Lomography" came from. They also acted as pretty much the only store you could get LOMO cameras from outside of the Soviet Union, not sure how they were importing them but they were. At the same time they were sort of pushing this cultural photographic 'movement' that focused on 'bad' quality photos, mainly the results of using shit cameras with light leaks and such. This German importer had exclusive trade deals and such with the Russian LOMO company and eventually started making their own cameras, some remakes of LOMO originals, some of their own designs, but pretty much all of them just toys. I think the Russian LOMO company is still around but they do more medical equipment and shit now, not sure if they're still connected with the German Lomography company.

Lifestyle brand of toy cameras and intentionally shitty film that rode the 2010s hipster film revival wave. They do however have a nice user gallery with tags to explore if you're curious to see how certain lenses look with different film stocks.

For a photographer, lomo is postmodern playtime. When you’ve been shooting so long you have all the gear you want, all the gear you don’t want, have done it all and are in danger of becoming bored with everything, you get on Lomos site, and for lesss than the cost of a box of film, pick out any of their cheap toy cameras that one thing weird, something to fuck around with that’ll do a decent enough job to play around with, but without investing heavily in, and the thing arrives, and you shoot your extremely low-tech plastic water lens or ultra wide sprocket hole pano camera, and you see what you get bc it’s neat. That’s it. You faggorts and your mental illness about everything having to be this ideal of arbitrary mechanical perfection or whatever your issue is, this shits not for you, keep being an engineering student nerd so you can take the super important photos that the world is so desperately waiting for and jerk off onto your handlebar mustache trying to reach the tip with your tongue.

An engineering student nerd would prefer lomo because it accomplishes its job in fewer steps with a lower budgetary impact, bud

We're artists here. We chase ideals not because they are better, but because it's right. that's why everyone who's better than you uses a hasselblad, unless they're a funky cartoonish street photographer.

You’re a fucking predictable tool, and you have zero idea of what I shoot with or how long I’ve been doing it, so suck a fart out of my ass, bud.
